She was named after a grandparent who emigrated to Russia to join the revolution and became a hero(ine?) in the Peoples Army. she often had to fight in school to defend her name so she became very tough. There fixed.
I'd not say there are no "Aleksandrinas" at all in Russia, but if you found one, she would most likely be of Greek or German origin. Russians are usually conservative with names, and you will not find a mix of different forms of same name, like in US or other immigrant countries.

@wkz: Because Alexandrina doesn't sound as a Chinese/French/English/etc name, it sounds like someone spent ~1 min to come up with "Russian-sounding" name. Let's say you watch Superman, and main character is called Colya by coworkers (diminutive of Nikolay, the closest Russian name I can think of).

That... is the nicest thing they could've gotten! I'm actually very touched by this ^_^
to people who think there is no wrong names
in russia if you've got one you've earned punch in the face in school and will change your name the day you turn 16
@ the "not a russian name" thing: Guys, there are people with CHINESE names in Europe and America, English names in Hong Kong/Taiwan, French names in South America, etc.
Why isn't "Aleksandrina" even remotely allowed in Russia?? Does the Russians purge their own or something?
@T: Please no. No more corkscrew penises. I never asked for this.

@Remiel: it is NOT a Russian name. Can you believe several posters from Russia and not a random baby name site? Proper form is Alexandra or Sasha. And Shura is a male name -_-

From http://babynames.merschat.com/index.cgi?function=View&bn_key=47252
"Aleksandrina is a Russian name for girls meaning Defender of mankind..."
In any case, people can have any name in any country, so who cares.
@Pervy Bastard: ITS FUCKING BULGARIAN NAME. IM FUCKING RUSSIAN. Aleksandra/Sasha is most common russian name for girls as is for buys (Aleksandr). But Aleksanrina is not the same thing at all. Shut the fuck up, stupid 'muricans. You know nothing about rest of world, because of liars on FOX News.
For those of you who don't know, in TF2, The demoman is named Tavish Finnegan DeGroot, the engineer is named Dell Conagher, and the sniper is named Mr. Mundy.
Wait...Engie built a notepad with wifi and uses it to read Nerf Now?
Will we be seeing photo notes spamming the comic with things like 'Engie here'? every comic?
I see She's name after a tenis player:

Then at the end of her Journey Engie discovers the shocking truth. She is actually alternate universe Zone Tan and Jo is alternate universe Lemmy. They were meant to be all the time. That said Jo isn't going to get off that easy when she gets back.

@vdrandom: Funny thing about Names is that there is no "wrong" name. So having her called "Aleksandrina" is complete legit.
Plus, people will call her "Alex" later on, anyway so who cares? :P
Nah, Engie isn't in the comic anymore, she's on a journey of self discovery. If she's going to get a name it'll have to be one she finds herself. She's not being given anything anymore! Not even charity, handouts, or kindness!
Aleksandrina's Dota 2 name would be CykaQueenAxAx, the only hero she would be playing would probably be Legion commander and she would be really bad at it.

Already mentioned earlier, but...

Jo gave us the best gift of all, the gift of life. And not being stuck with Zone Tan. Also names.......... The name Jane is probably a reference to G.I. Jane the female version of a standard G.I. Joe soldier.........And Morgan is maybe a reference to Morgan Freeman (that's all I got).

Am I the only one that would rather have to new characters stay?
I always thought Engie's name was Angela, or Angie for short.

If I learned anything about life it's when you specifically leave one person out it's because they mean the most. By giving these girls names Jo is showing us that Engie is still his best girl and he's just trying to make her jealous! {also he's still including her in the comic}
@PAK215: I thought he was also referred to as "John", but maybe I'm misremembering. Of course, it's also dang likely that it's his pseudonym, so it could be applicable either way.
