I never played WoW l and never will...and the same goes for millions of other players...the supposed "11 million" players WoW has are more like 8, since a lot of players have stopped playing/multiple characters.

The problem isn't the obscurity, it's that it was a bad joke, and it would still  be a bad joke even if I did play WoW.

Seriously, reading a gaming comic and not gettign this joke is like showing up at a sci-fi convention and not knowing who Luke's father is.

In Super Mario Bros everytime you beat a world, which is beating bowser in a castle at the end, you expect the princess in the castle, but it's usually just Toad saying "the princess is in another castle." This comic is pretty much making fun of that. Mainly because everyone hates Toad.

It's not an issue of the game itself being obscure or not, it's an issue of whether or not the joke is obscure. WoW has plenty of potential for jokes that don't require the readers to have played the game; it's just that the last comic wasn't one of those jokes.
