I play on a server where you can't see halos.  I don't doubt more and more will install plugins that make them not even matter.

I'd bet you the first five Hats I get, more then 3/4ths of the newbies who got halos had no idea the idler existed, therefore they did nothing to earn it.

Before the other times when Valve reacted to people using a third party tool to get items in the past (seriously, does nobody remember?) I would've been pissed. I was pissed. .

My beef isn't that Valve punished a bunch of (mostly harmless) idlers.  It's that this isn't a fix for the real problem, which is a broken random drop system. 
Now this will only encourage more widespread use of achievement_idle servers, which means Valve never really fixed anything at all.

I lost most of my original achievement weapons, and I really don't see how that's fair.

Well.. Im not saying idling is exactly the best thing to do, but when semone wants hat I see no reason he shouln't try getting it and idle unless he uses the '3rd party software' but giving the halo is more like a punishment to those who got it.

Personally I dont care about the item loss (lost only three items, which i never really used, and found my only hat legit, so i kept it), but what valve did "wrong", was giving the non-idlers the halo... this made a lot of the idlers angry... ^^ even more than the itemloss

iLol. Serves whoever used the idle program to get hats right. Not only did Valve render thier time worthless, but they gave everyone who didn't a nice bonus. Yes it's a little tacky and it's a terrible hat for certain classes, but that's what makes it great.

Oh well lost a bit, but didn't have any hats anyway. And you get back anything you got through achievements it seems.
I just hope no one really does ban people from servers who do/don't have a halo.

Gabe stole my 35 sandviches! I knew he couldn't resist my precious collection! The system is completely flawed though, my grand total is 1688 items and not a single hat. If I was playing my regular 2 to 3 hours a day it would still take me more than 3 years to have got a single hat.

This is what "idling-is-a-legitimate-way-to-get-items"fags really believe.

First, valve doesn't give a crap about idling wile in the game, what they do give a crap about using a 3rd party app to emulate their software's communications and spoof the system. mind you the item system is so flawed. it doesn't give you the right to CHEAT the system with a 3rd party app.
