BTW, "Throwing" means "doing something stupid that ends up costing your team the game", such as jungling during a push or killing spires when attacking an ancient.

Too bad we no longer care about sharing the experience of a good game by giving advice to new players. We all have this unrealistic thought that everyone should be as good as we happen to be.

@Sergio Gabriel Fruto:
I hope you realize that Valve will always lie to you while they are still tinkering with matchmaking and reports. Gang reporting someone still works, and I know this first-hand, because my five man stack did it once, and we got the successful mute notification promptly after
Totally true. But in the other hand, because things like that, Valve since a couple patches away is "ignoring" the "gang-report". They said that it does not matters if the whole team reports you. They just count one and they will check if it worth it to be banned.
(.cont)this leaves us with Co-op games like left 4 dead. Those too can be problematic, but it's far more common for players to play co-op with people they know, while MOBAs are far more often played with strangers.
(cont.) FPS don't tend to have this problem so much because personal ranking is important there. So if you played the match well, even if your teem failed you are still won to an extent.
Fighting games are 1vs1 so there is none to blame but yourself.
The problem with MOBA's is that they are an "all or nothing" teem player long games. Which means that both the stakes are high and you usually need other people to play well in order to win.
This cause people to turn on each other when things are not going well, and there is always a losing team.
some straight stuff: if you don't buy wards, get courier AND upgrade with CM, you are worth a report. No matter which support I play, I always get the wards, courier and upgrade it instantly when I have enough money (or remember it).
@Cxyzis I really glad you replied, early 90s games were The original secret of monkey island, doom and Wolfenstein 3D, lemmings, Sam and Max. If Dota = MOBAs gets your jimmies in a rustle the MOBAs it is.

It is the class of gamers that we have now, the ones that take games way too seriously to the point that it sounds like "work". And very often every elitist conveniently forget that they too sucked at first. You werent born with a controller in your tiny hands.
@Lucio Spagnoletti
if you mean automatically? then no, the first offense per week is forgivable. if it happens a 2nd time though, yeah your in low prio.
if your connection or power is doing the consecutively, it is proper to stop playing for a while til it gets fixed.

Sadly, this is a problem not only Dota 2, but League of Legends, and Heroes of Newerth as well. I occasionally LoL with my friends doing 5v5 but aside from that I refuse to take part in these craptastic communities. If I want to play Dota, I'll fire up WC3 and play it.
After reading about the guy about to get 8 years in jail for replying sarcasticly in lol I reread this one to be sure wether it was about that, or not.
Once again, the worst part of an online game is having to deal directly with other people. Because it's a crapshoot of whether they'll be assholes or not.
I laugh at LoL vs Dota 2 debates as in why am I going to deny myself one joy over another, I was blessed to go the International this year as it was great and I am going to the league of legends championship later this year. I love Dota 2 and I love me some League and will continue to enjoy both.(4)
Well it's not and I guarantee you that it will never stop, it's just our nature in general, we invest in something we love an feel threatened when one does better than the other. At this point in time, If you think that their community is more toxic than yours.. Well give a hard look Again(3)
(2) I played HoN, now Smite and even the new upcoming Infinite Crisis, I love MOBAs in general and give each one a shot and the one and always persistent thing is the shit talking and reporting, the *insert my MOBA community is Accepting than their MOBA community* you people act as if it is all new.
Dota 2 said this LoL said that, now let me tell you something here folks, I've been playing PC games and MOBAs, since the early 90s When Eul made the Iconic map back in WC3, then all star Dota when Guinsoo (designer at Riot Games now) was the head of it then passed it on to Icefrog. (1)
I say that other times... moba games era bullying games...

@FoxCharge: report for unskilled doesn't affect ELO, ranked games, tribunal showcase or gives you worse teammates. It simply prevents you from playing unranked games together.
FoxCharge

@-: Player 1 makes a mistake or two that loses his/her lane. Players 2 and 3 report Player 1 for being "bad." Player 1 loses a ton of ELO and plays with noticeably worse teammates for the next handful of games. And this belongs in other games...why, exactly? It's laughably abusable.
@Cxyzis
Why cry? We'll just respectfully disagree.

Which tunes unranked matchmaking in such way that you will not meet the reported player again. Dota should get that button too.

Only one report per match actually counts against you. You could get reported by all nine other players and it holds the same weight as a single report. That way stacks of idiots can't gang up on innocent players and it's *usually* only repeat offenders who get put into LPQ.
this isnt being told, but everyone has 1 "free" game where if they get an abandon by not reconnecting, your still in normal MM. its only for once a week, so if in consecutive days/games your connection fails,you have more pressing problems than low pio
for the uninformed btw:
low priority just makes it longer for you to find a match. hardly problematic. heck, even if no one reports you you can find yourself in a low prio match just by random chance(this happened to me once, I had no "you're in low prio for XX hours" but somehow the match was)
except that, you know, multiple reports in a single game dont really stack. its only when it continues on to more games where the report will take action. valve already told this officially, Joe.
also low prio is hardly anything really. heck, I sometimes found better matches there than in normal MM
@Delta Pangaea: to be more precise, "report for unskilled" is set to be an alarm for the matchmaking. if a player gets an unusual large number of reports for "unskilled", they go to check if everything is ok in the system. it doesn't have any other meaningful function, not even lead to the tribunal.
@Tadlfm: Fun fact? That button doesn't actually DO anything. Riot put it there to give assholes something to press rather than other more legitimate reasons.
I'm not even sure the 'bad at game' reports GO anywhere, even just a basket nobody looks at.

@Tadlfm: LOL and DOTA are so Alike...
They are my OTP!
@Tadlfm: I tried DotA on war3 before playing LoL, and got insulted so much that I never played it on war3 again. When I play LoL, I play with friends, in 5 man premade team, usually. And the community playing ijn this kind of team is good =3. But in normal LoL games, or even worse, in 'ranked' cont.

Im sick and tired of hearing LoL fanboys saying that DotA 2 sucks because the community is shit.
I have been playing LoL before i started playing DotA 2 and let me tell you, the community in LoL is WORSE.
There is even a report button for being bad at the game.

Is it odd that this comic actually makes me want to reinstall TF2 and play? XD
[/Totally unrelated]
I never got to like MOBAs because of such behaviour/cursing etc.
That's what I hate about these frothy ragers. I'm tired of telling them every time that: "Dude, you can't report someone for playing bad or having a bad day, there is no button for that." If he said "easy" or "?" to you then go ahead, otherwise it's just a game, chill out and don't voice your rage.

From what I experienced though, reporting doesn't immediately put you in low priority unless you did something else (like abandoning a game). Also, I think I read that Valve has a system in place that will assign lower importance to reports by people who have a negative history of reporting others.
If there is one single thing good about the semi-dead HoN, it is that the community isnt that radical.
You must pay to report someone. Not sure who to convert it to IP (LOL) or Itens (D2) but it should be like 5 games worth of currency. You recieve the $ if the GM see your report is serious.
We're a bit less agressive in LoL, because everyone can have problems, and the main thing that cause you to get reported is your attitude, not what you do (well, feeding too much can also be reported).
