@J.c. Bengtson: Not really. The stealth in Payday 2 is grossly unrealistic and the game sets its own rules. Take Big Bank for example. Guards won't give a shit about vault door being open. The vault door that requires two of those guards to press buttons.
@Jake'm:
No, as long as your gun is silenced, no one will hear it, even if it's actually loud as fuck. And they also won't notice bullet holes, or even notice the bullets flying near them.
@Raxyz: Understanding this joke requires knowing that deer bitch can charm NPCs, making it a Pepe Le Pew joke. Otherwise, it just looks like some asshole charges through for no reason. Other than possible retardation.
Speaking of retardation, do NOT suggest I am that idiot ever again.
@Raxyz: You think I'm really that idiot? Any idiot can copy and paste that a game is terrible.
This...joke, I have to assume there is one, and that it's supposed to be funny, requires knowing (as someone was kind enough to point out) that deer bitch can charm NPCs.
Still don't like DoTA, but good comic/joke because it's universal humor.
As others have said, it sounds like you'd actually like Payday 2, whose stealth system DOES work the way you said. Civilians are dumb as bricks but guards notice a LOT of things and not setting off alarms is key.

Hey jo, have you ever heard of styx: thief of shadows? It's a really solid and fairly difficult stealth game. The guards respond to most things, i.e, seeing a dead body. You can also not alert the guards by killing them with chandiliers or poison, as these are "natural". You should take a look.
Shooting rockets and throwing grenades near enemy and didn't get spot is not very big problem as you think. Do you mean other stealth games like MGS,Dishonored and Hitman are "realistic"?

this, dear Jo, is why i played Deus Ex by simply getting into a building, shooting the first guy, proceed to kill everyone in the whole building and be done with it
If you want a good Infiltration game where evey single mistake you make counts, try Hitman : Blood Money. Not doing perfect murders increase our fame, and can lead to a game over. And there are so many different options to finish the missions (only a few allow you to finish them perfectly, though)
And OOT, I can only guess that deal with it and technature are actually the same troll with different accounts. They never appear on non-dota comics, and they are both unable to think.
Well, I can understand your point. Stealth games can't be 100% realistic, then again, almost nothing that CAN be realistic is fun. However there are some games that might work for you if you're willing to have little of Suspension of Disbelief. Hitman is one for example.
@Redthirst: Now to be fair, silenced weapons aren't completely silent. Firing one next to someone will still tweak their attention. What the range after that is, I don't know. Though I didn't know about them having hyper-vision for bags.
@Jake'm:
But it also has a lot of stuff that Jo hates. Like guards seeing black duffel bags from across the map. Or them not reacting when you fire your silenced gun at the wall behind them.
There is a Deus Ex mod that makes alert status never go away. Once they're alerted, that's it, they are alerted and u have to fight'em or reload.
Also the old Hitman 47, there was no save game between missions and one failure would raise madness in the whole enemy installation.
If everyone was built around stealth, you might as well restart. But if one or two people go stealth and the rest act as back-up, you can fall back on them should things go loud. It's generally pretty fun, though there's one heist you HAVE to stealth, which is pretty bleh.
You get the option to stealth through missions, and whilst mistakes can be worked around, too many will piss off the guards regardless of the situation. And if you have a stealth loadout, you're woefully underequipped to deal with the onslaught of guards that an active alarm summons.
Like Linus said, PAYDAY 2's got a pretty neat stealth system. Silenced weapons are less likely to be heard or noticed by guards, less threatening gear raises less suspicion, but breaking cameras, or incapacitating guards and not responding to pagers will kick the hornet's nest and summon the police.

They always hit you too. Shotties are a personal favorite for the giblets and the raw. I love getting up close and personal, Y'know?

stealth just doesn't appeal to as many gamers, or is really applicable. In Borderlands, the sniper is useless unless you're a master of quickscoping in close combat. No matter how far away you are when you shoot, there is ALMOST ALWAYS a psycho nearby to start throwing buzzaxes impossible distances.
@Mr SP: I think in Deus Ex they have quite low sound radius. Remember rockets alerting only a few guards, when the building was packed with enemies and it had a large patio through which it should've echoed through the whole building.

Yer doin' stealth wrong Mr. comic maker person! The real method is to upon getting caught, defeat every enemy that spawns with your fists, and only when you get bored do you retreat and hide. The reason why they stop following is that they saw what happened to the other guys. MGS 1-4 Pro strats!
As for stealth games I have to agree.
I've never played in hard mode, but videos show that other than 1 hits hurts more than 2 hits, and alarm is somewhat longer, it is the same.
Stealth games should reward you for not being noticed at all (Not talking about achievements, or game rating, Thief...)
Those who don't get it:
Enchantress has the ability to get the NPC to do her bidding.
In this comic it happens naturally (with a centaur, at least) and she keeps running away from it. Thus her movement speed rose. (IE that's her secret)

@Linus: Yes! This is exactly what I was thinking when reading Jo's blurb. You can't even kill more than 4 guards because you have to answer their pagers, and the pager operator gets suspicious and sounds the alarm on the 5th pager. Then BAM, cops and SWAT teams within the minute.
This is a comic, with a joke I totally understand because I play a game required to know every tiny detail about to get the joke.
Please, keep making jokes that I totally understand due to my fetish with dota.

I think the question is, since when did rockets go unnoticed by enemy AI in stealth games? In the stealth games I've played, rockets are usually one of those things guaranteed to get the enemies hackles up.
@Luxeraph not really, changing uniform to make a bald, coldhearted man with a QR code tatoo on the back of his head look insta unfamiliar to everyone is kinda rediculous
I think the faces on the first and third panel was okay. The face on the second panel (especially Ice Maiden) is a bit wonky.

Reading you about what you don't like "Stealth game" make me think you might like a bit better "Styx Master of shadows" (in hard/gobelin mod).
In this game your basically a goblin (even if you have some cool powers), and if someone really spot you, you're often as good as dead.

The stealth system in PAYDAY 2 works like your example.
Guard discovered dead? Camera found tampered with? Suspicious loud noise?
Enjoy waves upon waves of cops trained to break your legs.
