Try Invicible, Inc. I play it to get the rest from XCOM randomness and I play XCOM when I'm tired of Invisible's suspense.

Here's the most pro tip, Watch Marbozir, He did a 4 man squad run on impossible, and basically was as aggressive as.....He was fucking aggressive.

From your rant I gotta ask, DID YOU USE FULL COVER?!

When Classic iron man will be your daily bread, it's time to hit the mod: Long war. That stuff is bonkers. It's fun, it's massive... like it is a bigger change that whole enemy within expansion. And it's a challenge! Like I go Classic iron man all the time but here... normal's terrifying.

I remember one xcom enemy unknown game I did where I lost 1 game after failcascading for like three months of abductions, wiping every time with teams of squaddies in the gear I had my A-team in before they wiped to the first cyberdisk. By the time I lowered difficulty and pulled out I had two -cont

@Web Metz: witchers need to bring proof of their hunt with the "monster"

a braid of hair is common enough, like the succubus contract

On X-Com release I played a Classic Ironman campaign. I won while only losing one soldier, I sacrificed him on a terror mission so the others could escape. There've been a lot of improvements and expansions but I couldn't play again, afraid of not being able to improve on that near perfect run.

You should play Xenonauts instead of Xcom, it's way better in every aspect, but in 2D.

You might spend a bit of time getting use to the different way cover and action points works, but it makes much more sense and gives you better control. Also the aliens don't wait for you to wake up.

Ironman comes by itself. After the third time I beat the game, playing normally, I was comfortable playing Ironman. Over time you understand the game enough to know that when things go awry, it's because of wrong decisions. At that point restarting the game is just about playing more.

@Better Nerf Irelia: It's very simple. I don't find the world of Fallout interesting so I had no interest in exploring it.

Witcher world have this "Game of Throne" vibe with politics and manipulations which is amusing.

<continued from below...>

[THE WITHCER 2] There is no exploration, your decisions carry no weight, you are just an errand boy follow commands. Even small trinklets (like founding drug addicts in the city) are nice because they give player agency sense.

@Jo: I know I am late to the dance, but I'm amazed by your different approach from TheWitcher and Fallout.

[FALLOUT 4] You didn't care about world exploring, you liked playing the main quest, so those changes were going to be fine.

@Snoipah: Agreed. After three missions on normal, you'll be thinking 'If this shit goes any further south, we're going to burrow out the arse-end of Earth, circumnavigate the entire universe and smack right into the North Pole'. Despite that, it's genuinely enjoyable.

Jo, you should get the Long War mod.

@Nos Rin: Well how else do you demand an enchanted sword?

"However, the "right" way to play Xcom, specially on higher difficult levels is WW I trench warfare struggle with you winning the battlefield inch by inch"

That's exactly what happened on this Xcom stream I watched yesterday.
