I'm a bit torn on the matter. Usually I hate crits, I die because of them far more often that I kill because of them, but I don't think I can imagine a TF without it...
I know that OW doesn't interest me at all, crits or no crits.
@MetaL556
About the hit detection I believe melee hit detection is client side so thats why it happens and I'm fine with that since I'm very far away from my wifi source and I'm connect through wifi not the ethernet so it's nice to have melee be client side so I don't miss every hit.
Random crits are fine on a public valve server. However, they do _not_ belong in a competetive format. Fortunately, all competitive server configs turn them off. And Valve's matchmaking will also have them turned off just like they should be.
Tl;dr: Crits are fine in pubs, not in matchmaking.
Random Crits for the win happened to me. I roll a Heavy and turn the corner and see two heavy-medics. I get lucky, crit, and kill all four of them. I got super upset as my intentionally laid-back run-and-gun let me kill a double duo of coordinated players. I probably took 2 Ubers and the match.
Past that it was a troll on my team who decided Symmetra's teleporter should exit off the cliffside for teamkills. Thank god I found out about it while playing as D. Va, otherwise I'd have splatted.
For me it was random as hell Hanzo headshots through either sheer blind-ass luck or some kind of 'hack' that allows you to see a Widowmaker ulti or Hanzo echo arrow constantly. And no they frequently didn't have either up when the kill replay went down.
If you didn't care about crits then you played the game just for the fun aspect. Which is perfectly fine and acceptable.
However, when it comes to balance, randomness is an extremely hard thing to plan around. Activate kritz, turn corner, random crit from enemy soldier. GG.
@Hoovy Woopons It's something you can plan around, however, because unlike the RANDOM crit, Spy's backstab ALWAYS happens when he stabs someone in the back with the knife. So you know more or less what to expect, barring retarded hit detection and the resulting facestabs.
Random critical hits are no measure of skill, just plain dumb luck.

I don't have a strong opinion on random crits. Sure its annoying when it kills me, but I can say the same about more guaranteed "crits" like head shots and back stabs. Though the presence of servers that don't have random crits does say something about what others think.
Of course, I do recall the moments where a hilarious random crit just vaporized the enemy team for me, but the negatives heavily outweigh the positives(every day vs once in a blue moon is a bit of a no-contest). They should allow only melee weapons to crit. It's a risky move, as mentioned.
Random crits are one of three most infuriating things in the game(the other two being FaN scouts and mini-sentries). I've lost count on how many times a random crit kicked me in the balls in the middle of an otherwise skillful play/escape. And more often than not, it's the same guy over and over...
About random crits it's infuriating to be killed by them sometimes but i'm fine with random crits on melee weapons because you say might hit a soft spot. But it is still fun when you shoot a small nuke or start firing laser beams.
Well, I personally don't mind random crits at all. In fact, they helped to realize an important thing: Even if you do everything right, you're still not guaranteed from failure. Applies to everything, and accepting this really saves a huge amount of nerves.
I personally find random crits really fun. They may be infuriating some times, but they fit perfectly on the madness that is TF2.
The game has never taken anything seriously. You only have to look at the taunts, cosmetics or the fact that they haven't added matchmaking in eight years.
So I heard you don't like Zarya because you want her to be "a traditional hottie".
Therefore I don't think it's possible to have any actual discussion with you.
But I appreciate the honesty of someone saying "I wants tits&ass to titillate me personally and don't care about variety or equality".
Crits are dumb. Headshots take skill to land, crits are just a set percentage that you either get or don't. You can have the best 1v1 duel of your life and die anyways because of a lucky crit. It's beyond me how people find this "fun".
Random crits were fine to begin with, since it did the whole "let the newbies win" thing that kept people playing. But there was never a good alternative that allowed you to disable them, considering the game was built around random crits. Dice-rolls shouldn't be the decider in a match.
You know what? This is perfect. Meggie should just speak in emotes the whole time. :D And maybe move into some of the shift-JIS ones for really big "sentences" when she learns more.
