Jo, you should give Danganronpa a try. It's on Steam. It's a VN in the same way Ace Attorney is a VN, with investigations and trials, difference being the trials have more action.
I've no ideia what Tu Tu Ru means. XD
But anyways, visual novels are really what they name mean. Books, with pictures. At best you can change the course of the plot drastically with choices, usually you just have a few different endings, it's not meant to have any gameplay.
@Waka: Nukige is a category of eroge and has nothing to do with being hardcore, nukige simply means that the focus of the story is pretty much nothing but porn to the point where the story is just an afterthought. Rance series has some pretty hardcore shit but none of it is nukige for example.
contrary to popular belief, VN arent typically about sex and whatnot. that has its own category, which is called eroge. then the more hardcore ones are nukige. otherwise VN dont have those scenes, with some not even having any romance at all.
It is quite a convoluted game if you want to get the true ending... When I played it I referred to this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/956053-yumina-the-ethereal/67403455
Was helpful there and there.
So... Long time no see Joe. Well, I read the comics... Commenting is not the same. ANYWAY
If you want a GOOOOOD visual novel, you should check out Yumina the Ethereal. You can get for getchu. Or maybe sukebe nyaa. I don't judge. Maybe. It has a full english release.
I have respect for "visual novels" (or dating sims, as I prefer to call them).
They helped me a lot when I was studying Japanese, and I find it interesting how they can have interesting plot of characters among all the pr0n (or romance if it's PG-rated).
like imagine if the main character is a troll who is semi aware of it being a game. oh and not only the main character, quite a few other characters get into discussion about the game elements, as well as a ton of references to other real life games as well as jabs at real life consoles.
you have a large and diverse party(if you got the DLC), you can sort of craft certain attributes/passives to equip each character depending on what you want(type resistance, element damage, monster bonus, recovery increase, etc.), cool to entertaining skills. but the best of the game is the humor
actually Jo, if you want one of the best and funniest VN, you should try out the hyperdimension neptunia rebirth series. dont be fooled by the cover appearance, there's only a few fanservice on the games and mostly its for comedic purpose instead of eroticism. the RPG element is also pretty good,
well thats why they're called visual 'novels' instead of visual 'games'. mostly the point is that its a novel you read with some still illustrations and images.
though of course, they expanded on that over the years and now there's some animations, music, voices, choices, and other game elements.
@Lulzy: lol you what mate? In all seriousness tf2 do have a lot of story. Like check this out http://www.teamfortress.com/comics.php and very much like overwatch the fluff is not in game.
@Arras: Especially in the VN. I still remember how hard it was to get through the fucking physics lecture lol. I can see why that didn't make it into anime.
Steins;gate is great indeed, but it has a very long section at the start where not much of interest happens. If you can stomach that, it's well worth the ride, as the second half more than makes up for it, but some people just can't.
@Lulzy: They don't make the "results" feel good, they just make playing it feel good. If you're actually good at Overwatch, getting results in Overwatch feels awful because of how bad the actual gameplay is.
Steins;gate is fucking amazing if you're into visual novels, but if you're not into reading you really might as well go watch the anime based on it. The artwork in steins;gate is very good however and they just released a sequel to it in Japan plus the English translation has been around a while.
TF2 matches, competitive or not, don't have enough fluff compared to Overwatch. Making the results feel good is more important than you might think, even if they don't change the game.
