@Tyler Wang: I stopped consistently following DotA 2 news about June 2015 (basically at the start of last year's summer) when I pretty much completely shifted over to League (shorter average match times, more interesting lore, etc). I didn't know that they'd done a bunch of comics since then!
@Albus Nix: This is one of League's strengths, definitely. I don't even PLAY the game, yet I'm curious in the various storylines they have. They make very interesting characters that even outsiders can get into.
Most of the other connections have to be gleaned from careful reading of response lines. League, on the other hand, has a carefully constructed lore that typically tries to connect multiple champions. SMITE and HotS both draw their characters from already-existing sources, so plenty of backstories.
@EnragedFilia: Actually, of the current mainstream MOBAs (i.e. DotA 2, League of Legends, SMITE, and Heroes of the Storm), DotA 2 is the one notably lacking in lore. I mean, for goodness' sake there is very little clear connection between heroes outside of Lina/Rylai and the Four Elementals.
Wait a minute... MOBA characters actually have backstory? I thought they just think up a powerset and write a couple lines of vague description to pretend to justify it.
You know, just like every single MMO character I ever made...
@Jo Pereira: well when you consider their mythical multi-century lifespans, their puberty would have to be relatively early in their life to prevent them from dying out due to being slaughtered before they could breed. it's entirely possible that a Welp dragon would be at or near breeding age.
This is ALSO a D&D + meta-fantasy joke, because sorcerers (spellcasters who can perform magic feats "just because", without training), are often born due to magic creatures, including dragons, mating with mortals, to explain how ordinary people would create such progeny. So I 'get' it for that. :)
(2/2) Jakiro, on the other hand, is different. Instead of two dragons (with separate powers and only one head on each dragon) being born, there was only one dragon (Jakiro) born and he had both kinds of power and two heads instead of one. So, basically, he's the fantasy version of Siamese twins.
(1/2) For those of you who don't get the joke, Jakiro (that twin-headed dragon thing in the last panel) is a fucking mutant. Normally, dragons of his kind are born in pairs, one with fire powers and one with ice powers. They then fight and the strongest survives.
