responsible mother? is that a bad thing? not for some guys. some guys like women who have kids, and if the kids' father is out of the picture (deadbeat or dead), they like to be the father figure to those kids. just look at my dad! he got married to a german mother! my step-sisters love him.
From all I know, Maggie never wanted the engineer hat.
Seh wanted the attention from the person wearing the hat, and also to be like the person who wears said hat.
@MrIczer: She adopted the little one. At first, they were enemies because Maggie wanted her hat. (Remember that Engie's a TF2 Engineer.) But eventually Engie gave in and here we are with this.
On the other hand, I can definitely see where Jo was coming from when he was commenting on pacing. NN!! is a /mostly/ a once-a-day gag comic, so working in a longer form of narrative into it is difficult.
That said, I would've liked to have seen a few more strips to better increment the development of their relationship. As it stands they very quickly jumped from adverserial to friendly to familial and the transitions have been -as others have stated - jarring.
To be fair, this development in Angie and Maggie's relationship didn't come entirely out of the blue. There wasn't too much of it and it took foreeeeeever, but the setup was very much there.
It's not the 4th wall. The lack of one is a common theme of the comic. In this case, it's just pulling Maggie out of nowhere when she is rarely mentioned, and making their relationship a key part of this arc feels like a jarring transition.
This Feels like pretty bad writing tbh. I love your comic but the central storyline is starting to approach CAD levels of cringe. "Character development" needs to be constantly factored in rather than shoehorned in when its needed.
