Let's be honest here. What kind of amazing, gamebreaking feature are they developing to solve toxicity that takes away from game development? Just pause to think about it for a second: they're spending their entire development team to solve this problem.
they are afraid to implement a kick button beause of the fiasco of the "dont play against" button, another ideia is to implement a "dont play on my team" button with a timer of couple hours or more, to avoid player to be permanently banned because of abuse
I wish Hi-Rez (Paladins company) would rename Brazil server to "South America server" tho, just that would be enough toxicity fix for me. I mean they feel like the server is only theirs to use, if anyone uses spanish/english it's alright to insult them etc
I feel that they were pressured in trying to fight the toxicity after the fiasco about that guy who got reported 2000 times and spent like a week banned. They will probably try something for the next couple of patches and then go back to the cool content stuff, hopefully.
"People say 'gg ez' at the end of matches! We need to stop this before we work on the actual game!"
Paladins is getting to be a lot more fun than Overwatch simply because HiRez has been focusing on the actual game and not trying to be the moral guardians of gaming.
To be honest I would much rather them focus on mitigating the toxicity, yes it's impossible to remove it but there ignorance of it for so long was the reason it got this far. they are so worried about people gaining the system they they let others ruin the game for everyone.
You can find people who act terrible when they lose Anything. Literally impossible to fix.
However muting text and voice chat and blocking anyone who tries to message you about the match you were in just in works in every other game where you can do that. Is that possible in overwatch?
In order for Blizzard to truly deal with the problem, they'd either have to overhaul the game to allow for independent/private servers, or hire hundreds of mods to deal with toxicity. Both cost a lot of money that is supposed to go into shareholder hands. It's a no-win situation.
@Kate Blackwell: Finally, everything's run through Battle.Net, meaning no independent servers. Without those, it's impossible to build "communities" from which to mitigate toxic factors. Everything about the Blizzard's multiplayer allows toxicity to forment and entrench. (Part 2)
@Kate Blackwell: FPSes are a different beast all together from RPGs. It is extremely fast-paced and *highly* competitive. That leads to giving into darker impulses. Moreover, unlike MMOs, you're more likely to be dealing with strangers that you don't see again. (part 1)
I mean, everyone always wants "new features" but then they also sit there and complain that the community's too toxic. Remember, this is a multiplayer game: I guarantee you that you won't want to play if you hate dealing with the community, team PotG or no team PotG.
Fighting toxicity is sadly a lost cause, there's going to be toxic people of all kinds (trolls, ragers, etc) in any multiplayer game, because that's what happens when you are bringing huge groups of strangers together.
