There's definitely some invisible walls that could have been removed or pushed back, but people shouldn't think the game is heavy handed in controlling where you're allowed to be. The complex movement system actually allows you to play with fully realized 3D space in a lot of ways and areas.
Checked out that 2b subreddit. It was almost my new home then I noticed this bit "yonah not allowed for obvious reasons". Googled yonah...yeah, that ban don't jive with me. Allow all ero content or don't bother.
@IC23
definitely use the FAR patch to get rid of pretty much all bugs. You can always refund if the game's performance isn't fine, but if you have a PS4-equal PC you shouldn't have any issues for 1080p60fps.
Invisible walls? Never had any problems with glaring invisible walls in my playthrough...Some buildings that you can't enter even though it seems you should be able to, and even then, it never really annoyed me.
More on-topic: The invisible walls got to me pretty bad in the city. All those empty buildings, with big windows, and almost none of them are traversable.
But yes, one gets used to it quickly and stops noticing.
@IC23 I played it on a Geforce GT740M on first playthrough, at 640x400, with the FAR mod to disable the unnecessarily heavy-weight lighting effects. Below 30fps the game does gradual slow-motion, so it remains playable during fps-drops. Played it through in one go.
@Jacob Kling: It is proven to be faster that you dash spam everywhere rather than run.
If your thumb gets tired you might want to slow down and enjoy the cute stumble animation that occurs when you walk over terrain transitions and bushes.
Now, I dislike a few things about Nier: Automata. Don't really hate much, other than one thing. The one thing I well and truly hate about it is the fucking stumble mechanic. Run into a bush or across a patch of rocks and watch 2B's beautiful ballerina ass stumble around like she's a newborn deer.
