I've actually noticed a hefty speed increase with windows 7 and photoshop. I got to use all those fancy nvidia hardware accelerated functions in CS4. Probably helps that I have a quad core and 4 gigs of ram.

In one last additional note. There isn't a W7 optomised version of adobe photoshop yet.
Expect CS4.5 or CS5 to run like butter on it.
(CS3 and CS4 have some... interesting bugs with W7...)

I've done quite a few W7 upgrades...
Curious what your system specs are, and also what version of W7(32 or 64bit) you installed... W7 only shines when you have 64bit programs and ~4GB+ ram.
Admittedly it has some shiny but replacing Vista and XP64 is really its specialty. XP64 was horrid.

Your PC must be pretty crappy if it can't run 7 fast...7 is faster than Vista, so yeah, you might want to consider upgrading..

And yes, I upgraded from XP to 7. Everything actually felt sweeter. Either Windows 7 was an improvement for me, or my previous XP is horrendously unoptimized.

Perhaps you are running older versions of those software? Running in compatibility mode very much guarantees everything will be slower.

Well, I upgraded from XP to 7 as well, and it was a jump from 32 to 64 bit, and everything is running much faster.

7 can be faster, you should check out lifehacker, do a search on optimizing windows 7. They have several articles about what to turn off to make it run better. Also, how much RAM are you running with?

Most people who see this won't get it because they haven't seen Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star. But me? Sadly, it's my only cursory knowledge of Left 4 Dead that somewhat hurts the impact of this comic.

W7 and Vista are shits even on high-end PCs.

I agree that Windows 7 doesn't work as well with Photoshop. For a short time, Photoshop crashed every time I tried to make a small box while I'd had no problems with Photoshop when I was using XP.

The solution is simple.
Get a better computer. Mine isn't even that high-end, but it runs 7 great.

A tweak that might help: right click the desktop and go to "Personalize" and chose the "Windows 7 Basic" theme. Another simple tweak is to go into the control panel and go to "Performance Information and Tools". Click "Adjust Visual Effects" and chose "Adjust for Best Performance".

Funny really - I have Windows 7 running on a Dell desktop from 2003, runs better than it did with XP. You need at least 1-2GB of RAM for smooth running though. In any case, it's probably a sign you might need a new computer.

Everything I do runs faster on Win7, so yay me, poor you.
Maybe CS4 isn't optimal on Win7. Wouldn't surprise me - it's Adobe after all. Or are you using an older Version of PS? Maybe that's the problem.

Meanwhile, I'm over here chilling on Linux. New and up to date, but not slow and bloated.

Although this is funny as hell, I must point out that, by the Hokuto no Ken logic, it'd still work. Then again, anyone who fully gets the joke probably knew this already. Still funny as all hell though.

If you turn off all the prettyfiing features, W7 should be as fast, if not faster, than XP on most machines.

Also, SP1 is coming out soon, so all of the early-adopter problems should go away :D

How much RAM do you have? 7 requires significantly more RAM than XP.

7 has been 1000X better than vista for me. I wouldnt want to go back to a 10 year old, less pretty, more buggy OS. 7 is by far my favorite.

There are certain aspects that I like Windows 7 better. Mostly the ability for startup to actually keep going while I start running programs. Getting firefox to pop up is now much faster than waiting for XP to do its makeup, straighten her skirt, and ready herself.

So, can I be in the next comic then? I'm sure you can work a steam roller gag into team fortress somehow.
