and for a while the card game was really cool. I heard the link mechanic cleaned things up but, I don't know. XYZ sucks and pendulem is a perhaps one mechanic too far.
It's actually kind of an interesting thing there. When the Yugioh manga started, it was about all kinds of different games used to punish people. Like taking turns snagging coins out of a shoe with a scorpion in it. The card game was just a one-off thing that was meant to be forgotten.
A lot of you guys should check out the new Link mechanic and how to read the board. They really cleaned it all up in this release, to slow down the game a bit and make it less confusing to newcomers.
@Geoffrey - Magic for Kids was Duel Monsters, literally. YGO is nothing like Magic because it doesn't feature resources. You only get direct effects, which gives the whole thing more of an RPG than RTS vibe.
I feel YuGiOh is just Magic for kids. This isn't an insult on adults who play it, but rather, I don't see any adult being introduced to both games for the first time, and choosing to play YuGiOh. Contrast this with Pokemon, which is so different from Magic that I can see that choice being made.
I think yugioh, at least old yugioh when you didn't end a game in 4 turns with a over powered combo, is a lot of fun, but I maintain that magic is just a better balanced system. you can dig up plenty of old cards that are still completely relevant and useful, yugioh, not so much.
also the heart of the cards and the shadow real are things made up by 4kids tv.
i don't know about the heart of the cards but the shadow realm was made up so the kids will not know that the characters died.
konamy taught me the life lesson that if something is broken you are suppossed to fix it,not distract people from its flaws.
i wish valve learned this lesson and fixed tf2.
the early days of yugioh were awesome.
the problem is that konamy decided to introduce new game mechanics instead of fixing the flaws of the game, and now the game is annoying to play because people summon a million monsters in each turn and monsters rarely ever fight each other.
It’s the other way around I’m afraid. The card game was made to capitalize on the popularity of the anime. The main reason the first season had so little resemblance to the card game’s rules was that the game didn’t exist yet. The Battle City arc brought it closer to the game.
YGO is the most different card game on the market, and I don't blame you for disliking it if you're used to managing resources and drawing tons of cards.
The anime was nothing like the game though. It used made-up cards and had no ban list.
...limited, niche, and ultimately "too prohibitively situational" setup, that's just as dead as Freeze Shaman. I cannot speak for the other card games as I simply do not have the time nor the desire to –make– the time.
...I'm going to play seriously enough to justify having it on my phone anymore, at least I'm no longer held under some kind of COMPULSION to log in every day like I used to when I first started playing back in Beta. Discard mechanics were the biggest hype for me and turns out that barring a VERY../2
Yu Gi Oh! annoyed me because I genuinely have no understanding of the exponential increase in convoluted mechanics which turns take forever and may as well be games of solitare for how ridiculous the combos are. Hearthstone has ups and downs, to be sure, and while I'm still not 100% sure if.../1
I like games where I can disrupt the flow of play and are more than 1v1 matches. MtG let me do that with upwards of 10 or so people if the tables allowed for them but I haven't played in so long that I bet even if I still had any of my old cards that they could keep up long enough to do even that.
Yu gi oh! is... well, kinda bad, roughly as bad as the old Pokemon card game. You can still draw out some fun from it, don't take me wrong, but I'd rather play poker i think.
Speaking of which, the Heart of the Cards has been an ongoing joke in my poker community... for that alone: thanks, Yugi.
MtG has been quite bad for the last 10 years I'm afraid, too focused on fast drawing combos and boring matches that basically all are "search card, resuffle, repeat x4, win". Hearthstone is becoming just like that, sadly, but at least it has some fun adventure mode to compensate.
although gemini are pretty neat too.
it's also too easy to build a deck now, just match the names, like ghost tricks, and boom you got a deck, so little strategy in deck building these days.
maybe it's just more obvious in yugioh.
I used to enjoy yugioh, took me a while to accept synchros but honest it's become far too gimmicy. they should have stuck with rituals, fusions, and synchros, and worked with the systems they had, not keep on adding more. the power creep is annoying.
I like playing with the older cards.
In all honesty I love yu-gi-oh and honestly think think its better then these, who i have tried in the past. Including that elder scrolls card game on the phone.
P.s Did i cause this comic to happen with my last comment on the last comic of this?
