I use Discord through Pidgin, so I can make PMs look like the old AIM interface which is pretty much all I've ever wanted for basic chat functions. If I join a server or other fancier thing, I'll use the actual Discord client but I hate that it doesn't have individual, resize-able chat pop-outs.
I dropped Skype for discord like a bad habit. Microsoft ruined Skype when they bought, literally every update you could see the UI get worse, more screen space wasted with advertisments and the client become more buggy and unstable.
