I've been calling this one for months, actually. Fifth slot in the fighter pass isn't to sell more fighters passes. You've already sold most of them already at that point. The fifth slot is for using the fighter pass to market other games. FE:4H was where the ad money's been going all year.

Even the Fire Emblem fans want someone else. Where's Hector? Where's Ephraim? Why do they ALL HAVE SWORDS, the entire core mechanic to FE is the weapon triangle.

Fire Emblem is not as popular.

So fans are angry because Byleth skipped the line, a long line.

"Nintendo puts what they believe players want". The problem is that only the Japanese fanbase in general was expecting something from the latest FE title, even if it became more popular in the rest of the world.

@Brooks, No one complained this much for Bayonetta, although they did for Corrin.

Honestly, Alek has the right attitude and the rest are just being jaded. the reality is that this was the last fighter for now, so literally any character would have likely had massive backlash, nintendo unironically went a SAFE pick in this case, yet everyone tired of fire emblem are up in arms

Is it just me or does Alek look like Wreck it Ralph in that last shot?

I didn't pay the Fighters Pass for another effin FE character in the game. From Joker to Terry, the fighters were amazing additions to the game. Characters from other games beating the shit out of each other. Banjo AND Joker in a SMASH! NUTS. Yet, when theres 7 FE, 1 more for the Luls. GREAT

-other blue-haired characters. Compmare Zelda, who could easily pick any game and identify a character based off appearance alone, to say nothing of what they could do implementing them.

Same with Metroid, Rundas, Gandrayda and Ghor spring to mind.

3) Besides the two you mentioned, it has more entries than EVERY OTHER FRANCHISE.

4) There are a metric ton of characters that could be used from other IPs that aren't so aesthetically similar. From an outsider's perspective, there's very little differentiating Marth and the four-

r/Olivia, because those character are FREE, (even tho Im actually bothered by the fact that there are indeed a lot of Mario/Pokemon Characters, but it can't be helped cuz Pokemon and Mario where the OC of Smash. Also, Pirannha Plant was free for a time too and its not in the original Fighters Pass)

@Olivia Cheatham; Would be a valid reason if.
1) Mario was and arguably still is the most recognised Nintendo game of all time.
2) Both Fire Emblem and Pokemon have eight slots in the roster (Pokemon trainer counts as 1 and Greninja's infamous for being nerfed)

Funny, I don't see them complaining about how many Mario or Pokemon characters there are and there's more of both.

@Andy Willow
You're not wrong, but we do get a lot of Fire Emblem characters in Smash.

Of course, I'm saying that as someone who doesn't play Fire Emblem and thus doesn't get the hype.

Fire Emblem is also the only Nintendo title along with Pokemon that actually brings fresh characters in their new games. Their other options are either continuing to ring in 3rd party characters (I really don't want to see Doom guy in Smash) or making an Arms character a fighter.

Byleth-It Alek?

The game must not be very good, if people get this worked up over DLC for it.

There's a saying in the FE community. "No one hates FE more than FE fans." We were wrong, Smash fans hate FE more than FE fans. Tough to be Alek when everyone else is angry.

Always happy to see more Alek. ;)
