For the people saying that Switch does have Cloud Saves, remember: yes, but on Splatoon, or the new Pokemon, and probably some other online games. Their protection against abusing Cloud Saves on online games is so bad that they don't enable Cloud Saves.
With a Switch, you're not often device swapping. The point is to have the same hardware with you, in different form factors as makes sense: on the TV when you're at home (or somewhere else you can set up with a large monitor), on console when you're away.
Why are cloud saves such a big deal? Do you really go around playing games at other locations? I actually prefer the memory card system, I know I'll have those saves forever that way. And unlike microsoft and sony, Nintendo consoles almost never die. My original nes, snes, wii etc still work.
For those who asked if Mario is supposed to be Jewish, the joke here is that Mario (and by extension Nintendo) is supposed to be Amish, which is a very religious group of people in the US that do not use any technology past whatever was developed in the 1800 or so (Horse and Buggies, no cars, etc.)
Switch have oncloud save games with the online subscription. In fact in the last Witcher 3 update I switch they add crossave games with the Steam version.
Nintendo never has any hardware where games are crossed-over from them, so I don't think that cloud saves would ever be used unless someone's system dies, and they need to go buy a new one. Otherwise I would agree that Nintendo is usually behind in online and online features.
It's nice in case the hardware fails and I'm compelled to grab another, I suppose.
Nintendo in general is always behind with its online functionalities, though. The ethernet/wi-fi adapter in the Switch is really underpowered, and online multiplayer constantly suffers.

but it turns out nintendo switch HAS cloud save feature as console, its up to game dev to use it.
I dont recall wither 3 coming with aditional hardware for switch to have cloud saves but hey, the game has that option.
The only time the lack of cloud saving in Nintendo consoles ever mattered to me was back when i upgraded from 3DS to 3DSXL. It's not like STEAM were such such a thing is important. The problem I have is that Nintendo games/ports of games on Nintendo systems tend to be overprized...
I simply don't see cloud saving as a priority. Yes, it can save some headache on where you saved stuff, but I don't really plan to get more than one of the same console anyway. If it breaks, that's it.
One thing? Good games. Nintendo know well how to make games. Sony have some, microsoft too, but the target of the nintendo is giving a cool experience with nice, great games. Limits? All right, I accept them, if your game is good enough to distract me!
@author Gaming on the sofa has it’s appeal. But really, if games were more consistently available with good controller support on mobile, an iPad or Android tablet would easily beat the Switch for that. Though then the Switch would still offer the only solution that can freely switch between...
What's so great about cloud saves? Talking specifically about the switch, even if you have several gaming stations that you would need to sync your saves between, Switch is supposed to be a portable console that you always carry in your pocket. So again, what's the purpose of the cloud saves?
"Sheesh, I can't even play on ancient tech like Playstation or Xbox anymore. Like, you'd think by default games would be able to play in a handheld version these days, you know, just like you take for granted they have good motion controls, but man. . ." Either way.
Just one more: Nintendo continues to make multiplayer games that can be enjoyed by a group of friends on on the couch, something all their competitors have given up on.
Nintendo isn't making home entertainment systems like Sony or Microsoft, they are making video game systems, and they have the exclusive IP to back it up.
The proof is really in the doing. The switch is an OK console, the games for it are fantastic.
