@Ellis Warner; Hey, Raphael's enjoyable and I personally disagree regarding the edge. He's got anger issues, but he's a good guy in every itteration at the end of the day.
Shredder or Splinter, her sister's going to like the other, just to piss her off. Maybe April simply due to 'known reporter'?
Read the comics. We all loved the show, but it turns out the show is pretty bad compared to the comics. Raph is much less of a one-dimensional edgelord in the comics and much more of a complex character.
How I remember the TMNT,
1987, April is bust. Trying to re-watch it to day is difficult. I think I can watch the Smurfs long then I can 87-TMNT.
2003, Good story, Follows the comics more (kinda) but it goes on for a little to long. I could watch it any time.
Everything else, Meh.
I like the characterization they did in the 2014 version by Nick: Leo is trying too hard to be stoic, Raph is trying too hard to prove that he doesnt need to prove himself, Don is just trying to do his job, and Mike is simply vibin'
Me as a kid: Leo=leader, Don=brains, Mike=joker, Raph=aggro angsty kid
Me as a adult: Don's bo staff has the most range. Hit and run from afar for the win :))
Raphael was the most psychotic of the Turtles, and when they went for the kids market being the hardnose serious one that was a loner just didn't make for an appealing character. The writers just didn't have a direction for Ralph to grow into.
If you go all the way back to the black and white comics when the Turtles all wore red masks, Raphael was cool. All of the turtles back then did the anti-hero kill the bad guys thing. This was back when Wolverine was hot and everybody was trying to make a gritty, hardcore anti-hero/casual killer.
