Mortimer Mouse and Steamboat Willie (the show) are finally out of copyright, but Mickey Mouse (name and image) is still trademarked to Disney, and will be until Disney stop using Mickey in their product or brands. (considered "retired").
Copyright only applies to that particular show or artwork

Pretty sure you could've done this much to it in the first place. Parody is protected speech. Shoot the modern Mickey and fuck his corpse, Disney don't care.

Is that just here? I mean there is a huge Donald Duck pocket book series, but afaik there is nothing like that for Mickey Mouse. MM does feature in those books a bit, but it isn't his name on the cover.
Boy I'm glad for Randy Milholland and his new comic, Mousetrapped. Not sure how long it's going to last, though. Not because of legal reasons, but because I'm not sure HE knows how much he cares about it.
Fun fact: Mickey was never popular in Scandinavia. Instead, the big Disney character up here is Donald Duck. I think the fact that DD is a flawed character having various misanthropic misadventures speak more to our sense of humour than MM's more "perfect" and "flawless" character.
Yeah no one who cares is going to do anything decent with "Steamboat Willy" Mickey. Except maybe the nursery and day cares that now can not be sued by Disney for using Disney characters on their walls.
Every one else will be making murder films and replacing DOOM demons with that likeness.

Lol.... As far as copyright law is concerned you can.... Just a reminder though there is trademark law still which many people need to be careful about. In this instance it's probably considered parody and you don't need to worry about it.
