Like playing a game of CS:GO or AoE3 against players who have been competing against each other for decades. You can have all the same abilities and tools and still not stand a chance.
Internet tend to criticize on fantasy archers being dex based but the fantasy archers usually are playing the role of Sniper, shoot accurately and hit vulnerable spots for extra damage and the medieval archers are playing the role of machine-gun, shoot as many projectiles as possible on the enemyp
I’m surprised you are aware that archer combat at the time wasn’t much an accuracy thing but just shoot a heavy bow fast so you can maximize the number of arrows raining on enemy troops.
In war yes. But your forgetting the more common reason for death in the army. The common cold, dysentery, smallpox, measles, whooping cough, chicken pox, bubonic plague, typhus, and malaria. Diseases that would be passed between the troops and if you survived warfare you then might bring those home.
Actual medieval warfare had very low fatality rates. Once people start dying, people run away from the fight. Nobody wants to be on the losing side. If more than 30% of the people fighting die it would be considered a massacre. Typically less than 10% would die from the fighting.
I think the "coward" is more likely to survive. I also think that if the "coward" does their job right, their FRIENDS are more likely to survive.
Clearly the "coward" isn't, and is just the smarter combatant.
