We've come a long way when everyone isn't just laughing at this situation, and some show sensitivity toward gender variant people. We've still got a way to go to find acceptance and equality, but I am glad people are standing up for fairness and understanding.

He was just making a joke. :\ It wasn't a good one, but he thought it would've come out funny, and thus made the joke. Btw, SFLegend, that argument gains validity only when human pregnancy starts to sometimes give out dragon brains to babies.

This would only make sense if it was a man hitting on the Prof.
Of course you could just change the pun to something trans related... Trans-dimensional Traveller?
Either way, logic fail.

Eh this is why jokes like this should be avoided. The gay bashers and gay rights people are equally douchebaggy and all need a slap to the face. Everyone shut up, it is a web comic. If your self-image is so fragile a picture gets you riled up you deserve to be insulted.

Jo probably didn't even know what can of worms he was opening with this comic. His objectification of female characters always bothered me, but it usually seemed innocuous (if immature).
Either way, this comic fails. If you offend or alienate part of your audience, it should at least *funny*.

@Jade: Normally, I don't mind a little transgender or sexual humor in general. But I just feel it just didn't 'work' here. It might just be my own perception here, because I can't really give a rational reason. Or I could be detecting some uncanny valley from the transgendered person. Dunno.
Jade
Suffice it to say, to be 'bi-curious' has nothing to do with one's own dress. 'Bi-curiosity' is one's sexual orientation which means you are attracted to both sexes [or questioning that you may be], not dressing as though you're both. Thus this comic confuses gender identity and sexual orientation.
Jade

@Julia: :) I find trans jokes are only bad when people don't understand the difference or presume that transgendered individuals are only male-to-females (one never sees female-to-male trans jokes [would anyone ever call a man who was born female a 'trap'?]).
Jade
@existential or absolute: Actually they're referred to as 'Gender-queers' and they typically don't identify as 'male and female,' but neither. They may dress like a male one day or a female another, but typically, whether they are biologically male or female, they tend to dislike the gender binary.
existential or absolute pt 3
in conclusion, i'd say the comic would be better off reworked to take out the transvestite, as long as a new riddle could be worked in, in order to avoid the implication of a claim of universal transvestititude in residents of the Bi-Curious Village.
also it's 'universal', not 'absolute'. oops.
existential or absolute pt 2
if all residents of the Bi-Curious Village are transvestites, there is a problem. but while it's odd to use this singular entity to represent the village in this comic, as though they were all transvestites, it was a tool to approach the riddle. the execution was shaky, but i doubt Jo's a homophobe.
existential or absolute
so it's impossible for someone to exist who wants to identify as both male and female? it's impossible for such a person to be bi-curious, having previously had sexual encounters with only one sex?
ToastyEngie

I really don't see anything "trans-hating" here. I see a joke, and a pretty funny one. Sure, bi-curious isn't the most accurate descriptor, but Jo's English isn't the best. I appreciate it for the joke it is. Stop freaking out.

The idea of a village that allows and welcomes all sexual preferences and how a stranger would react to it, would also create comedy.

@Seriously? -- Your logic is flawed to say the least. Argumentum ad populum. Just because "other webcomics" have made this kind of tasteless joke doesn't make it okay. And most gaming webcomics aren't as well known as Nerf Now, thus not many even read their hate messages.

Transphobic, biphobic nonsense. It's not a bad pun, it's a misunderstanding or a misrepresentation of what bi-curious means. None of those clues have anything to do with being "bi-curious".
A cute webcomic about fanservice, video games, and... love. Mostly video games, though.
