Agreed, I played some games like this on the Atari (don't ask which one). And the graphics where three maybe four tones. And no where near as good as this game shows. something for DOS from the early 90's maybe.
It's funny to see people talking about games like this saying they look like old DOS games, or something. It's funny because these are graphics that are 100% modern and could have never existed back in the day.
Personally, thinned out-eyebrows look stranger to me than "thick" ones (i.e. normal ones), though those are more difficult to draw than a simple line, I guess. Thanks for making the effort.
@Mister Jay: Ironic considering Alek was the winner of the vote, isn't it?
Speaking of Engie, I wonder what she's up to. No successful suicide attempts, I hope.

I can just imagine Alek sitting by a window with Engie outside going "Wow so many comics with Morgan, Jane, and Anne Marie but you sit alone guess you'll be outside yourself soon enough" before maniacally laughing. And going back to her bartending job.

@Raxyz: I'm the same, just that Touhou really clicked for me. Awesome music & nice gameplay style, especially in the early Windows games :D.
I was never a big fan of shoot'em ups, especially the bullet hell ones, but i do play them every now and then.
Except DoDonPachi, that one is great, dunno why, but i like it.
Me: Humm, seems familiar, wasn't this a flash game a while ago?
*googling*
As so it was, cool, i guess i will go buy it now.

Dwarf Fortress takes this to the limit - under the unfriendly interface and non-existent graphics (the game is rendered in extended ASCII) lies a very complex simulation of great fantasy worlds.

I saw this game a while ago and was hoping it would come to this, http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/luftrauser
Reminds me of Wings. Except ofc Wings had/got better graphics and content.

I completely agree: gems like Luftrausers are really hard to find, even harder to convince people how awesome a game can be without those fluffy 3D graphics.
Luftrausers reminds me of Sopwith on the PC, which was incredible, and also an amazing game I had on my Spectrum 128K +2 called "Dr Destructo". Which is why I want to play Luftrausers so bad.
"mask the lack of resources" is the wrong way to convey it. especially since most of them do it on purpose but pull it off in a manner that is aesthetically pleasing and fun.
So Jane having her eyebrows suddenly thicken between one strip and another wasn't a fluke, huh? I don't know why, but the look is growing on me with each appearance.
@Nial Iwakura: Maybe. I personally enjoy it, like, REALLY enjoy it.
They lack the broader appeal 3d graphics have now though, so as a style choice is usually inferior since it will leads to less sales unless you are going for a retro vibe.
