Waffl3x, no need to speak up. Jo likes his strips, everyone who complains are idiots. I play dota and dota2 and didn't got the joke either, i did supposed this was an attack but didn't know wich. I needed the joke to be explained, but it was funny and i laughed and this is all thats needed. Kudos Jo

I feel like all the people who enjoy the dota comics need to speak up
Way back these comics were about videogames n'stuff. Now it's a Dota Nest...After 2 years of following, I'm leaving. It sounds like a douche whining comment ( well it kinda is, sorry for that ), but I don't understand 90% of these jokes O_O da hell I'm doing here then?! Gotta go Fast, see ya Q_Q

@Technature: Invoker's Sunstrike deals its damage distributed among all targets within a certain range. The units have to be practically touching each other to reduce the damage, thus, hugz.
Were it not for the excessive (and somewhat odd looking) fanservice in panel 2, I'd recommend this page to fellow DOTA2 players, even though the joke is a bit obscure.
I love her face in the last panel. Affection? Nope!
@Jean-Sébastien Leclerc Demers: I play Dota, I know all of the abilities and how they work and I got this joke instantly. Obviously you don't know as much as you claim.

@Afafbbh Gibbon: It is not CM doing hte damage, it is an Invoker Sunstrike. It splits the damage when someone else is in the AoE so she came close to Bloodseeker to avoid death and split the damage with him.
@zitro: Except the strips generally require only cursory knowledge of the subject. Jo has been getting worse and worse about this regarding his DOTA2 comics, and it's basically resulting in an effect of 'this is only funny if you're a hardcore DOTA2 fan'.
What I didn't immediately realize was that it was an attack originating from a third party somewhere on-panel as opposed to, say, something CM had done somehow, which didn't make sense.
In other words, there's more than one way to not get a joke.
I quickly realized it was some form of damage being split between multiple targets (and despite my knowledge of MOBAs being derived almost entirely from reading previous strips, that seemed like exactly the kind of balace-focused mechanic that you'd expect to find)
@Geary: It's only bad for the person who doesn't get it, though. The foundation of the comic is almost entirely based on knowledge of certain games.
@SoooWhoCares: If a joke has to be explained for it to be funny, it's not a good joke. I played DOTA2 for a few months and this made zero sense to me. :/

I know right? several times ive tried to stick beside a teammate, either for his sake or my own, only for said teammate to just move in another direction.

When the guy who the Thunder King puts the blue circle on is the only one who doesn't know what it means, hilarious.

Okay, I understand the reason for fan service, but can you at least tone it down maybe?

Right, Jo? :P
@Kilgore Trout: Yes, though from the comic it doesn't look like she moves very far. I feel like it's a fanservice version of what would be a "BLOOD PLS DON'T MOVE I'M GONNA GET SUNSTRUCK" moment if in game...
@Lady Goblinade: Yes, I find that more likely, because CM looks happy while Bloodseeker looks annoyed in the last panel.
Hey, also, if CM has time to move isn't that defense enough against Sunstrike? It's basically "Call down a beam of light to hit a certain spot," tricky to hit moving targets.
Even as a Dota 2 player, I didn't get this strip without it being explained because I didn't know that Sunstrike worked that way. I also didn't realize that was a Sunstrike, because it kind of looks like the "level up" effect.

@Calamity: I think it's CM that was the target of Sunstrike, and wanted to split the damage to Bloodseeker so she doesn't get one-shot.
@Calamity: You got it right. And for the description, Bloodseeker is a very situational hero, considered by most as a "noob hero". I know it might be a pain for those who don't play dota, but there are other strips from jo or others about games that I never played at, and I don't complain...
@Mr. Lemon: Not sure if you want an explanation. But basically, one of the Heroes on DotA 2 has an ability to call down a " Sunstrike", like a giant laser form the sky. The damage it does is pretty huge (In the earlier stages of the game, at least), but it is divided among all the characters (cont.)
I've grown to accept DotA2 strips if they're funny and understandable. This one? I've no fucking idea what I'm looking at.
Jo, please less DotA2 specific, more general gaming humour? I liked that last "TF2" one, which could be set in any online game and still be funny.
