@Mrlczer maybe it was just a neighbor annoyed with the sound of you doing laundry late at night?
Oddly similar in ways to my night last night... Was doing laundry until around 3am and was getting ready to go to bed. Suddenly someone (thing?) rings my doorbell at around 3:30 and I get kind of paranoid.

Ended up staying up to around 6am keeping an eye on things.

/who needs sleep?

Maybe get some solar power? If you live in a house solar power should be a good investment isn't it? Some solar power cells and some batteries and would be enough to for light and computer. Solar water heating is better for saving money though.

Apparently the stars are powered by his electricity, too.

Something's up with the ads on the site, I had to enable adblock in order to get the comic to load.

In Brazil a good UPS would be around US$200.
I'd vouch for that, if he has cash to spare.
Of course, it wouldn't be enough for drawing from the start, unless he's quick doing that.

Get yourself an uninteruptable power supply.

These are cheap to get from Ebay, usually those sold as "defective" are only needing new power cells or need replacing some transistors, always the same two are burned.

I got myself a Smart-UPS 1000VA like 20 years ago for free.

Okay, I read this comic, felt sympathy for Jo, and then hit 'back' to re-read some of the recent archives...

...and the site went down.

It was only for a couple of minutes, but the juxtaposition of the *site's* uptime and the content of the comic is downright CREEPY. :J

portable generator maybe? in my country, blackout could happen everyday for 3 to 6 hour.

I guess living in Brazil this is a reality we might have to face soon. Apparently power rationing is gonna become a thing in 2015.

If losing your power is this common of an event you should seriously consider getting a UPS.
