Oh god the evil "META". I have still have nightmares of that word from League of Legends. Specifically when I would play my Soraka as a carry and have every person I killed trying to get me banned for "breaking the meta". x_x
@Kilgore Trout: ....and atc , it should depend on many many things to give a correct number but i don't think it does, every game of dota just transfers 25 mmr from losser team to the winner team.
@Kilgore Trout: true, it's progress is also stupid, if it's starting rank is sensible, then it shouldn't decrease at all " unless you don't play dota for months" it should increase but MMR of someone who plays bloodseeker 10 times in a row grows slower than someone who plays different heroes and ...
@Syobon: ..i'm continuing here... i'm not talking about the newbie people whom get low rank, there are really good ones with low rank too, yes there are skill differences between MMR tiers but this is not true about everyone, as i said before i can find you a trash 4K player and a very good 1.5K one
@Syobon: well i'm not so good at giving examples, i tried to say a 4K player's game knowledge is not double as a 2K,even tho sometimes you might find some 4K players whom are not as good as 2K ones , in other words , MMR basically doesn't give correct info about skill of the player,...

The second one is the only one that seems legitemate to me, since a crappy build is still a crappy build when you are 6K MMR and cross-map skillshots with a large time between cast and hit are still hit mostly based on luck.
The second of these can actually change depending on how often it occurs.

Never forget 4November2014, fuck EA

@Eddmario: Except it's almost exactly the same.
"Creating Space" isn't as relevant to LoL since ranges tend to be higher (and we don't have to deal with turn speeds). Think more like "Leona is now standing between us and the minions." As for the last panel, remember Blue Ez?
@Alireza: Yeah, I mean even if you WERE horrible during your calibration, you very well may have improved a lot since then. But progress to the next tier can be very slow, so your number won't necessarily show it.

@Alireza: cont. Also, people who have done MMR experimenting by playing low MMR smurfs also claim to notice skill differences when climbing in MMR eg.

@Alireza: Actually, there are very noticeable skill differences between MMR tiers, to the point that a 1k MMR difference is pretty much impossible to overcome eg. http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/2ixjwf/can_4k_players_really_beat_5k_players_the_new/
I've watched tournament games after years of constant playing experience and being fully versed on the latest meta, and been totally unimpressed all the same. Generally speaking you can only be so good. What makes the difference at a tournament level is having a team and a plan and luck - not you.
@RVN: Unless morphling has his ethblade it's better he use that on a carry rather than instantly turning an even team fight into 4v5
The real Trench Scum are people who take MMR too seriously and use this to compare people with each other, there's just an exception, "players more than 5K mmr are really good ones" , but this doesn't say a 4k is better (they are sometimes even worst :kappa:) than a 2k player.
@Derpalon: it is half serious, when you are a squishy support, and among a smart group of players, you know that the time the enemy carry spends hitting you, is time he won't be hitting your carry, sometimes the time spent on one autoattack can make the difference.
