I'm actually one who preferred the early silent arcs as well. I do remember one silent arc you did recently that you complained about killing reader interest... honestly, the problem with that was the arc was bad. Honestly - I'd love to see a silent DotA arc.

Some people say that "strong, silent protagonist" type character is the worst.
Imho, sometimes it's better since it doesn't get in the way of gameplay. I heard Other M had great gameplay but many people hated it because they didn't like protagonist's character. That doesn't happen with quiet heroes

I know that you disliked the path that this comic has taken over the years, it does make sense, but i think ya could've been a bit more polite and objective, without resorting to offend so directly both the author and some of the readers.

Also, i think this comic has been, since the beggining, both an experiment and some sort of 'diary', with Jo making comics about his opinions and point of views... it hasn't changed all that much, except for the fact that arcs now tend to appear less than before.

@Kilgore Trout: To think about it, isn't that when Jo decided to go 5 days a week he turn this into a full job? Maybe the income is good enough for Brazil's standard? I don't know much about Economy in Brazil. Hey Jo, need confirmation here mate.
@Greener: Also, there are some artists who make enough money just from their comics that they don't need a 9 to 5 job. Everybody's dream is to be able to support themselves doing a job they love. If Jo wants to do that, I don't see how you can blame him.
@Greener: Also, there ARE webcomic artists who make enough money through their comic that they don't need to do the 9-5 thing. Randall Munroe, for example. Most need 2nd jobs, but if you have a chance to quit that 2nd job and support yourself solely by doing something you like, you should.

Dio: "after 7 encounters" ... You know, I said it like 5 times. Timeline, timeline, timeline. Just because Other M is the last released game doesn't mean it's the last chronologically. Everything that happens in it is BEFORE most of those encounters. He literally died ONCE by Other M. I'm done.
Dio

->i am fighting some kind of monster that looks like him but has no recollections of who i am and is not intelligent either, else he would go for the insta-kill because he knows he cant win in a direct combat. But since this one is just an animal, why would i fear "him" returning?
Dio
->the fact that we are dealing with clones before even reaching Ridley should have me mentally prepared for this inevitable fact. Not that it matters since the Ridley we see acts like an animal, unlike the manga where he speaks (consistency is for pussies). So basically i am not fighting Ridley->

Dio: Unless instead of calling it PTSD we'd just go for it being a complete freakout. I mean, how would you act if you saw someone you killed being alive and well?
Liked this one, Jo. The proposition of Other M was cool (expanding Samus personality) execution was pretty bad. Still, I would not be sane if my monstrous nemesis came back from hell. It is like a Devil God insisting on keeping Ridley alive.

Dio
->cured.

The game and the manga that no one read tries hard to say this is PTSD but as i said before its "Drama/Hollywood PTSD". It works when its convenient and not when it should work like the other times she fought him. Instead of remaining faithful to the games, they opted for Retcons.
Dio
PewnyPL: Wrong again because that is NOT how PTSD works. You dont "get used to it", you relive the moment over and over and over. There is no cure for it even in this technological advanced civilization. And if there is then why didn't she treat herself already? That shit will get you killed if not>
almost 10 years ago
Dio: Well, the second time it didn't trigger her cause she expected him to come back again. In Other M, "An interquel between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion" it was the very first time the murderer of her family came back to life after she herself took care of him.
Dio
->Using "timeline wise." is an excuse since you know what was after Super Metroid? Metroid Fusion. The game that Other M rips off and fails at. Ridley came back to life too as a X parasite. Did that made her have PTSD? Nope.

Repeat after me: Retcons are bad. "Drama PTSD" is stupid.

But of course, since they cant have the scene without Retconning the whole series and bad writting, they went ahead and did it.->

-> So to Samus, it was the very first time Ridley 'came back from the dead', all other times from earlier game happening AFTER it, timeline wise.

Dio
PewnyPL: Irrelevant. She killed him in all the other games, so why would she expect him to NOT show up? Ridley survived being infected by freaking Phazon FFS.

Guys, I still don't get why everyone goes "Why was Samus a whiny twerp seeing a villain she fought numerous times before"?! Other M is a direct Sequel to Super Metroid, so the game in which Samus KILLED him. So, when she saw him in Other M, she saw a guy she herself killed being back to life.

Well, personally, i kinda like to see the site varying between the silent strips, the arcs and the one-shot comical strips, like this one... i guess it broadens the range of the site. It's not really selling out, in my opinion... just write about whatever pops up in your mind.

OtherM is actually a good depiction of "what happens when the person who bottle up all its emotions finally snaps" imo. I mean, having to work with her old father figure after destroying her old house only to see her parents killer returning once more after she was certain it died...she needs a hug!
@A5PECT: That is what stuck out to me as well. I cant help but wonder if she mostly works alone because of all those who have died near her.

If one looks at what Samus has been through I would find it no suprise if she carries more than a few emotional scars. While Other M was the wrong way to handle it, I dont feel it is the wrong step for her character as I do think a character can be emotionally scarred and badass.

It really irritates me to see people whine about free comics on the Internet. I always appreciate artists who spend their time, energy, and money making free comics to entertain me. Your comics are great Jo! Both the arcs and the single comics. Also +1 on everything Adhesive said
almost 10 years ago
@J.c. Bengtson: Well said. I admit that I would enjoy seeing more TF2 strips, and since Jo still plays the game he probably doesn't lack for ideas and inspiration. But I like the other stuff too, and I certainly wouldn't say the current comic is bad.
The level of hatred from Greener makes no sense. Either he has some other issue with Jo, or for some reason it really, really, REALLY pisses him off when a webcomic changes in a way he doesn't like. If he doesn't stop, I wouldn't blame you for banning him.
IMHO bans should be reserved for serious stuff. But it is one thing to have the opinion "I liked the old stuff better," and say so, and it's another thing to yell at the author and call him a pervert when he hasn't said anything to provoke that kind of reaction and is remaining calm.
Basically just saying, with any Internet comment, strip out the emotion and look at the point of the text itself. While I don't post here often, I do appreciate the ability to do so, and would be saddened by these going away. On behalf of everyone who lurks and just reads your comic, thank you.
