Amusingly enough, the last DBZ movie introduced a villain that Goku WASN'T able to defeat...which is probably why they brought Freiza back once again to do this.
I like Annie's eyes a bit more, ngl. Angie looks like Angie....Maybe she did like Krumm did in "AHHH! Real Monsters" where she can dislocate her eyes at will. Or something. Lol.
I never really cared about the power levels in DBZ, and its true that the whole concept became ridiculous after the Frieza arc.
PD: Does Anne-Marie have new eyes? i like them =)
-Secondly: Most of the complains about power levels and power progression and all that jazz is due to 20/20 hindsight. These are all tired and overdone tropes today, but only because DBZ made them into tropes that everyone and their cat followed afterwards. In a way, DBZ created battle shounen.
For those arguing about the merits of DBZ, a few things to remember:
-The series was supposed to end after Freeza's defeat, with maybe a feature movie to round out the series. The reason why Z got two more arcs (and then GT, and the less said about that the better) was because of executive medding.
What really bothers me is that Frieza/Freezer will commit the same mistake that gloriously backfired on him on the Frieza/Freezer saga: not being able to sustain that power for long. He got tired after using his full power at the end of the Frieza/Freezer saga, and so does he in the movie.
Also... the '100 quintillion' is more of a pun than anything, Ryusei Nakao estimates that's Frieza/Freezer power is such because he's a 'nice guy': 'naisu gai' (pun front and center) meaning '100 quintillion', and BAM, a ginormous power level was born!
I'm a huge DB fan in general, and while there are good things, there is also bad things. Personally, there are certain factors that make power levels no longer relevant, and that's why afterwards is more of a 'feel' by Ki sensing than anything else...
@Anonymous: I'll tell you who the movie isn't for: Freiza fans. Seriously, THIS is the next evolution of our beloved Lord Freiza? A deviantArt fan character recolor?
To me, power levels only really existed to illustrate how insurmountably powerful Freiza was. When Goku exceeded Freiza's power, and Freiza lacked the means to measure it, the entire concept of a numerical value became pointless. Goku was just stronger, that's all we needed to know.
Not sure who the new Dragonball Z movies are for. Still thinking a younger audience, considering their attempt to continue the series with Dragonball Z Super or whatever.
I think Vegeta said it best in Dragon Ball Z Abridged:
"Power Levels are BULL$#!^!!"
Seriously. Even the main series itself acknowledges this after a while by saying someone's power is "overwhelming" as opposed to tacting on a number.
Still, numbers are pretty hilarious...
Could't care less about Dragon Ball. But you're right on one thing: There are stories that the characters gets insanely powerful just because it's needed for the plot. Never been a fan of this trope, hence why I hate DB and comics.
To be fair, Toriyama wanted to end it at the Frieza saga. So everything else after that feels pointless, because it is pointless. It was supposed to be done.
To be fair it's dragon ball. The only power needed is the script. It's how adult gohan from the cyborg era could lose despite 13 years of training and constantly fighting the cyborgs who's powers don't increase and yet present era gohan could slaughter them with ease with 1 year of training.

I never liked DBZ. After the initial DB thing sjsut got way too weird and messed up. Indeed, the people in the DB universe are like Superman: their mathematical numbers in terms of power means absolutely nothing at all, and people don't even care about it. Even those who enjoy DBZ hardly does so bec
There is also the batman route. The script decides how prepared he is, and there is no limits to what he can be prepared to.

The only thing a manga character needs to win the worst fight is to scream, think about his friends and do THE SAME as he did before... but now with anger.
And, yeah, after freezer, Dragonball goes in a silly "who is the strongest" contest.
@Balázs Kiss: +1 for you !
DBZ is shitty imo but this is an opinion most of people dislike.
Anyway the battle for "my character is the most powerful" is stupid since as Jo did, the writer can make his character do wtf he wants.
If anyone is wondering why Jo made a DBZ comic, even though i dont remember he ever talking about anime, know that here in Brazil DBZ was HUGE for my generation, and probably for Jo's generation too.
