Jo, which teams have been using Techies? I haven't seen Techies in any of the games I've watched (mostly Navi, Secret and Cloud 9). I wouldn't mind watching some Techies games and seeing what the pros do.
55 Aim soldiers are not neccesaryily terrible. They make perfect grenadiers and decent medics. If your not great at the game your medic will be healing more than he/she will be shooting, and grenadiers don't rely on the aim at all. If your shooting with your grenadier your not doing it right.

@Cookiemonsta What Jo drew in the comic is actually closer to the real appearance of a rapier. The model used in-game is more along the lines of a fancy shiv or a thick longsword, depending on the scale you want to see it in.
Your troops are going to miss. A lot. Most guns require you to spend a turn steadying your aim to get it above 28% hit chance, not to mention that S.C.O.P.E.s both take several days and about $70. You'll lose troops and countries, but in time you can recruit more and take them back respectively.
Long War nerfed +aim items to encourage you to take more aim-modifying perks (lone wolf, damn good ground). Other stats are also important, like Will, mobility and hp. Will effects your psi chances, and psi is a huge counter to heavy floaters.
Glad to hear you're trying Long War. You should not hesitate to modify things in the config files to suit your tastes. Rookies will have average aim of 65, but it can go as low as 59 I think, or as high as 71. I changed mine to go from 61 to 69. (1)
I would argue, that aim isn't everything. In late game most of your soldiers are going to land their hits if put in the right position regardless, what tech decisions you make and how you choose to build up your infrastructure is what carries you into the the final missions.
