@zitro: The bear hero or whatever he is got hit by the static, so it made his fur stand on end all fluffy-like, and the blonde chick is hugging him like a teddy bear.
Sees name. "Oh wow, Zelda comic!"
Read name one more time. "Wait a second! Static linking? Is this programming joke about Zelda?"
Read comics about Dota and some Diablo clone. Way to kill all that buildup!
You may notice that as you damage a UFO, the yellow explosion effects appear. That means you've knocked it down to less than 50% hp. For Wandering UFOs, that means you've disrupted their mission, as their success rate is 100% to 0% when their *HP* is 100% to FIFTY per cent.
Targeted UFOs zoom in on a straight line and land: they're abduction/terror missions and such. You have to down them to stop them.
Wanderers flit around for a while: they are on bombing runs and satellite hunts and such: you don't *need* to kill them outright...
Keeping pressure on them can keep them from building up the resource requirement THEY have to upgrade their ships and do base assaults... if you're doing well.
There's two UFO flight patterns: wanderers and targeted.
The aliens DO have resources and research, just like you. This can lead to the aliens gaining abilities and stats (et voila: http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Alien_Life_Forms_%28Long_War%29 ) The UFOs too.
Your HANGARS can be invaded. Your base can be invaded. Both multiple times.
There IS game balance. If you're doing badly: the canisters will have more meld: use it for upgrades and gene mods; this gives you a fighting chance.
If you're doing well, they'll have less meld.
And it's INSANELY difficult to have the manpower to take on every UFO and mission: some times you'll have to just take the hit: don't worry, you can liberate the country later with a Alien Base Assault (there's multiple assaults possible now).
And speaking of YOUR base....
Going back to Long War, I feel I need to emphasize: in BASIC XCOM, expect to die.
ESPECIALLY in Long War, you gonna die. A lot. You memorial wall may/will consist of most of your soldiers you'll have.
nix that: i get it. it's just hard to tell that he's not always supposed to be fuzzy, because i've only seen him once ever normally, and once ever in an altered state.
@Technature: Everybody SHOULD get the joke about static electricity, but as for what Static Link is: it's a spell Razor casts which sends out a tendril of lightning to drain away the strength of his enemy (so they don't hit as hard) and transfer it to Razor (so Razor hits harder).
@Technature: Either this is subtle sarcasm, in which case, good job, ya got me, or you are really trying hard to be stupid. I mean, a little kid could figure this out. Ferocious bear + static electricity = fluffy cute bear.
