The game isn't even out yet and people are already passing judgement... I can understand the frustration about the delays in release, but after seeing what the AAA companies do to their titles, I'd rather wait for it to be finished.
Wait, since when was Mighty selling nostalgia? Mega Man isn't some long-lost relic of an age gone by, it's a neglected IP that's being ignored and mistreated by its owner.
That's akin to saying Bloodstained is trying to appeal to nostalgia too.
Ive played the demo and the game itself stays fairly true to the X series as far as game-play goes. There are of course modifications but its not enough for me to hate the game over it.
And for the trolls hating on the DLC its a skin DLC, you will live.
@Zacsi A documentary on those total of two or three projects that fell through due to developer incompetence, as opposed to the many excellent games that came out of it? While one should make sure that devs are legit, crowdfunding resulted in some of the best games of the last couple of years.
This just goes to show never support something on nostalgia alone.
You should be fully aware that supporting any project is essentially throwing you money down a drain. Someone should make a documentary on all the people who got scammed on kikestarter.
Was there a new Mighty 9 trailer recently? We knew what the gameplay and graphics and music would be like a year and a half ago, so this is a weirdly timed comic, unless there was an update I'm not aware of.
Agreed, Freedom planet to me is the best Sonic game released the last decade if not more even if it isn't really Sonic but New Sonic games don't really feel Sonic to me either so to me it is more Sonic than the Sonic games.
Mighty9 I think it would work better with 2D graphics.
<-] Freedom Planet does have a similar look to GBA Sonic games, whereas Mighty9 doesn't look very Megaman-ish. There is something very "neon-flashy" that just doesn't fit the whole "Old&Dirty" Megaman aesthetic.
@Inari: Memorizing every pixel? No offense, but you must have very bad reflexes. :p
@Adam Matecki: Freedom Planet is weird, because it's not exactly a Sonic refinement. It does borrow some inspiration from them, but also includes mechanics that wouldn't fit a traditional Sonic.
Outside of that, I think that Joe is talking more about the aesthetically feeling of the game. ->]
If "better than classic Megaman" means "you don't need anymore to memorize every single pixel and frame of the game and react perfectly to all of it in order to have a mediocre chance of passing a level", then I'm in for it.
Double for the Freedom Planet, which took Sonic mechanics, fixed many shortcomings of their design, while keeping in mind that Sonic is the strongest when it mixes speed, platforming and exploration. Also, they greatly expanded one of the most simplistic Sonic mechanics in form of combat and bosses.
Not completely agree. While nostalgia is an important factor, I think the best results are when retro game takes the source material and refines old mechanics that not aged well, while keeping in mind what make games like it special.
Two best examples are Shovel Knight and Freedom Planet.
