...and then there is investors. A problem for some companies where the designers have to justify every risk and change to people who (from what it seems) are just interested in making some quick bucks (*read millions of dollars). Why make something new and potentially awesome when you can make...
Also, much like anyone else there will be a lot of opinions leading to discussions about what should be changed in order to "fix" something not being as much fun as intended. Just try asking any fan OR pro-gamer of Hearthstone how to "fix" the game. You'll get a lot of different answers.
Most developers have a fairly good idea about what is fun, but for AAA projects changing the design when something isn't fun is a bit like trying to make a U-Turn with the Titanic while surrounded by ice bergs. Risky and very very slow.
@SoooWhoCares
That's just not true. While not every developer still games a lot of them do, and playing games is usually considered a merit in the industry.
@Len Ygan: I never got any other ad on nerfnow.com, apart from ads for other comics (and those doesn't have sounds), and I don't use adblock. So, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Dude. I love your comic and I read it with adblock turned off to help you out... but for fuck's sake get rid of the ads with audio or else I'm turning it back on. ._.
The problem with all PvP including LoL or dota is that you simply are fighting rock-paper-scissors in a series of combats. Eve and some others escue that model for 'most resources' win. FPSes and somehow rocket league are the few truly viable PvP games that make sense. Skill + Strategy = those two
Devs these days aren't gamers. They don't understand what's the problem or how to design fun into their games. They just expect a game to be awesome because of [mechanic] without caring if the gameplay is fun. Too big companies are snobs. Every PVP game = gank to win/ pay to win/ invest time to win.
In my LOLOPINIONS, a fight is requisite for recreation. Shooting fish in a barrel with P2W goods, one-turn wins, 10v1 ganks, these bring as much joy as AFKing through a 1P game with godmode on. Which is to say none. But you guys enjoy your barrelfish.
I'm not going to argue "rules" or "honor". Those are soft, subjective, debatable things. But if you think a "fight" took place, lolno. Any flashing light onscreen suggesting otherwise are a child's illusion, the already-determined outcome is merely establishing itself.
so i don't think you are in the wrong genre if you want to obey your own rules or expect honor just don't expect everyone to have the same rules as you or react the same way. that plus gather together other people who are like minded it's how our laws were originally formed after all.
in itself a rule or restraint btw. it really just depends on how you play. For example in playing the Division i tended to hunt Rogues, that's just my thing. so while it often is rules applied by the individual there are still rules. just funny to see ppl think they are rules when they aren't.
Willy even outside the game there are rules. be it rules that are enforced although people do break them. laws against murder exist but people still to it. Still it is a rule. pvp doesn't mean no rules or even no restraints even by the people who claim to have no such thing. which ironically is
@Willy Wonka: Allies, reinforcements, resources and such all matter for pvp, in an MMO it's more about staking claim of a certain area and hunting those that enter or contest your control. People who expect pvp to be honorable one on one duels are playing the wrong genre for it.
Then there's EVE pvp, they go hid in a cave until reinforcements come and then the elephant runs to hide in a cave until reinforcements come, this then continues until someone leaves an allied rhino in the middle of a savannah and everyone throws caution to the wind in a laggy 12 hour slugfest.
I think the problem with "real PVP" is with perceptions. Many people seem to think it means sporting like good, fair fights, when it really just means fighting with no restraints or rules, just like in real life. It is fun, but also brutal. It's an acquired taste, and certainly not for everyone.
