Marie and Callies dynamic worked well in the previous game as they managed to play off each other and have a good flow in their dialog. It will be interesting to see if the new duo can do that, I at least like the idea of a squid and octoling duo.
Honestly they look slightly...evil in their reveal. Like they could be the end-game boss (or at least minions of the big-bad). Jo's Marina is way more cutesy than the actual render, Pearl kind of looks like a brat. Callie and Marie (mostly Callie) are way better, IMO, but I'll try to be impartial.
@chasbanner: We don't know how far in the future this is, but it's not out of the question that Splat 1 was the end of that particular conflict and maybe led to some olive branches being extended.
Though let's be honest, the main reason it went this way was because everyone wanted to fuck the octos
Let's go crazy. Apparently Pearl's name in Japanese is Hime. Which is also the word for "princess," which explains the crown ...and it's also the name of a Japanese hip-hop/rap artist. So I'm guessing they were going for a blend of the two references, which explains her musical style.
I was excited to see an Octoling being one of the idols. Pearl's design...um, well I hope her dialogue is better then her looks. I really like the idea that Callie might be our antagonist and the fact her singing shows up in the distorted octo-vally beats.
Everyone knows that Callie and Marie is a play on words for calimari right?
Well what does Pearl and Marina have anything to do with each other?
Pearl Harbor.
Anyone else got any theories?
Where Callie and Marie complemented eachother and played off eachother, these two are like flowers and mustard gas.
It would have been better to just do a graphics update to the Squid Sisters and continue their already successful live concerts instead of creating this misbegotten duo.
I know precisely nothing about Splatoon, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one who looked at that character design and was instantly mortified. She looks like she's wearing a giant tooth on her head, what the fuck were they even thinking when they greenlit her look?
