@Candy Squirrel Don't forget that the UI is better in the newer one, which is the primary reason I couldn't pierce into the old XCOM. I will never know how much better it is because its UI was so much worse.
In my game I missed 3 melee attacks with 90+% chances in a row. Made me ragequit ironman. I can't handle this kind of pressure. It's not like the game is hard, it's more like going on without Kelly just isn't worth it anymore.
Tried to play Ironman first XCOM (granted it was Long War). While I may understand miss at 60%, 75% reaches into unacceptable territory. And then it was followed by 90%. By the same person at all times. Which ended in a total party wipe. After that I said no to Ironman, thank you very much.
@Will Miles
There's no aim penalty on the overwatch from concealment.
It's trash later on because you have better things you can do but in Gatecrasher you really don't have any options to work with.
TF2 Soldier really should be a grenadier.
XCOM does that RNG stuff, but on the other hand it's really satisfying to land a 10% shot or when aliens miss three times in the row.
Both xcoms had aim penalties on overwatch. If you think an enemy soldier will come at you on your turn (such as from being dkscovered) or being hit (like a beserker), it is better to just hold your fire and gun them down. When you know you have to end your turn overwatch is fine. Overwatch last.
I learned about 3/4 through my first XCOM 2 playthrough that Overwatch just isn't at all as powerful as it was in XCOM 1 due to a fairly hefty aim penalty that seems to counteract most of your aim bonuses on the character.
Open with grenade then manually shoot instead for better chances!
That's exactly the reason why the concealed overwatch move is complete garbage. You have no ability to react to what the enemy does.
Except it's justifiable on the first mission in that you have so few options that it's probably the least worst thing you can do.
some day I will play x-com 2. (I doubt i'll ever go back to the first, got too attached to a soldier and I need him to play. but you can custom and create in 2! :P)
i will play the easiest of easy options and feel no shame.
The first mission is famous for being hard: no medkits, bad units, no way to evac or continue if you lose. Thus, early game hell is why the basic trooper has a 17% kill count, (almost double the 9% of the Muton) and the early game ADVENT infantry take up 32% of kills combined, and 38% with Sectoids.
Hmmmm This seem familiar also note got to the early comics of this page and at one point around 5-100 there is some fire that looks like tentajo also you might find Angie in her pre-main character rolls as red engie
