@Bug Leader honestly, MTG Arena is a really solid F2P game. The card pool is wide but fairly cultivated, due to it being Standard, the format WOTC is best at, and they just *dump* cards and currency on you in dailys and such. Matches are mostly quick and matchmaking doesn't take long, either.
i was excited about this game when i found out about it because i thought"it is a a valve games, they never made a bad one",i didn't expect them to make it p2w
Artifact is classis Gaben project. Holla holla, i need ur dolla. Hearthstone is expensive too, but at least you can play it for free.
Also, while photonotes are disabled, i claim precious place (you know what i mean)
You also forgot something people are complaining since the reveal, people want Half-Life 3, or any other Valve game like the classics, not a card game.
Hey Jo, do you remember the Chaotic online game from a couple years back? It was the very first, I mean the OG, online card game that worked. And it was GLORIOUS. But it was owned by 4kids and yeah that about sums it up.
For the record, the game ISN'T out yet. It's in CLOSED beta, for those who managed to get a beta key. Pre-ordering the game does not get you access to it.
There's still another factor (even if unreasonable): THIS is what we get instead of HL3 or L4D3 or whatever fans are expecting from Valve. Instead people get YET ANOTHER CCG with aggressive monetizing policy.
They've already pulled back a bit. The changes seem like a decent step toward making the game actually playable for people who don't have a ton of spare cash, but I'm still not touching it.
from what they tell, they decided to not compete for "best CCG" and instead make digital equivalent of TCG. So same people who play Magic and such IRL are ones who will gladly pay for Artifact.
