Not playing Esper control and complaining about losing... MTG arena is sooooo strange. The meta doesn't adapt nearly as fast as the real game. Bant Turbo fog, Bant Midrange, esper control, Jeskai control. there are alot of options to stomp out mono red.
Jo, Jo! We already know Anne is a burn player from Hearthstone, could we please see a followup comic where she's the one on the other side of the match? Just smirking as Angie tries Fountain, then 'All to the face'?!
Hey Jo, have you tried Eternal, is a magic copycat but it is a pretty good one, and since the cards are all different they have different meta, it is worth a try if you enjoy magic
sets of cards. Adding modern increases the number of sets to 61, more than 10 times the number of sets currently supported. While I would love to see them introduce Modern into the system, as a programmer myself, I believe that implementing Standard fully is the most realistic approach.
@Chomper: It's important to note that they are still building out the system as a whole. Just within standard, there is something like 1,250 unique cards, each with interesting interactions with the general rule format - remember MTG is entirely based around breaking the rules! That's just like 6
@Andrew Nguyen: Ah...dang. I mean, I understand because they need to keep some vague semblance of balance but that seems rather dull. Even if it was just a Pauper Draft, older sets would be interesting to look into.
When I still played Magic, like, REALLY played it, Red's biggest drawback is that it had next to no card draw, and what little it had was overcosted and -usually- only came on cards that didn't do damage. Give a creature haste or +1/+1 this turn, etc. plus draw a card. That sort of thing.
So how many sets are available in MTG Arena? I would imagine not many, considering no one has yet to mention a plethora of spells which nullify damage done in a turn. Obviously NOT Fog, as that only prevents combat damage but still......
If the burn player does tap out, then boom pow you can punch in a pridemate that goes to 3/3 then either another creature or heal spell and you've basically healed for 6 as they now have to spend a combination of bolts and shocks just to kill the out of control pride mate.
Ajani's is arguably better than fountain because you'd play it in a deck with both pridemate and bunch of life linkers. The entire point of the latest burn deck is to not spend valuable burn spells on creatures. Skewer the critics being a sorcery also forces the burn player to tap out a lot.
Revitalize is also strong and helps you last until you can cast settle the wreckage while also replacing itself. Having played RDW a bit on the ladder, Rakdos (BR) aggro can also trade strongly against mono-red by playing things like sovereign's bite and nightmare's thirst.
On MTG Arena, I play 2 amulets of safekeeping in most of my decks now too to help, counters anything that targets you unless they pay an additional 1, and also make all creature tokens -1/-0 (very nice against goblins and soldiers).
