FFVIII is a flawed game, but it does have something special. Triple Triad!

I enjoyed final fantasy 8 back in the day quite a lot... until the finale segment. I don't want to throw direct spoilers in here but it goes off the fucking rails midway through and is complete batshit looney by the end.

I never got the hate for Squall, the dude is just a teenager and has pretty reasonable reactions to a lot of shit being thrown at him. Felt people made up their personalities to hate

That's cool Mikaël, never heard about that. Makes complete sense based on how I viewed his actual character

Awful story, awful characters, awful gameplay mechanics, and an awful story.

You're not missing anything by skipping FF8.

Funniest part is that Squall emblematic "Whatever" is actually a mistranslated itself. In the original Japanese, he actually says an awkward, stilted "Sorry" instead. That one mistranslation pretty much transformed Squall's entire characterization from shy awkward teenager to TRYHARD EMO-KING.

Careful, all the neckbeards on YouTube are crying about the game covering up pantsu.

Squall's supposed to be an unlikeable twat. That's half of his character's journey, letting friends into his life and trusting them instead of pushing everyone away like the edgy teen he is. All of FF8's characters are flawed but in a believable way that I really enjoy.
