Squall is the sole reason I skipped played Final Fantasy VIII at that time.

Maybe he is badass and interesting but I looked the pretty face with the edgy scar and I decided it was not for me. 

I won't say he is a bad char because I didn't play the game but I knew some protagonists are made to appeal a certain group and come with certain traits which I'll surely dislike. It's like spicy food... some people just don't like it and I definitely don't like pretty boys which are perpetually constipated.

The bad translation surely didn't help.
