To me, it's just someone else's Star Wars at this point. It's clear that Disney can't figure out whether they're pandering an old audience or a new one, so they're rehashing old plots with old characters and mashing them together with new characters and modern day politics. Let someone else have it.
Good way to counter her own point! Jar Jar Binks is literally the best part of Star Wars. People are mad because they see themselves in him, and they HATE IT! JAR JAR IS US!
It was just so uninspired, plagiaristic and poorly written and it was clearly the direction Disney was taking the series, relying solely on nostalgia of the OT (primarily repeating the same events except poorly) and it just wasn't engaging.
I always liked the PT, I understand their flaws (acting and dialogue primarily) but the stories were great and world building was amazing (felt like an actual galaxy unlike OT) not as good as the OT overall but still very good. I gave up after TFA however.
For what it's worth, at least George Lucas had a vision, something to tell with episode 1,2 and 3. And he went through it to the end. The new trilogy focused more time than anything else to correct itself instead of building something with half-baked characters and unfinished story-development.
