And that book is just a copy of Naruto

If even Mario himself is a stealth agent for the forces of weeb, we are all doomed.

To be fair, weebishness sneaks in like a shinobi. You aren't even paying attention, then all of a sudden there are Final Fantasy plushies all over your bed.

This is because Mario himself was described by one of the NES engineers as "the first expression of kawaii culture in videogaming".

Maybe a better title for the book should be "Weeb for N00bs!"

And Pokemon and Sailor Moon. And possibly Ghost Stories for strange people.

When I got into anime, we didn't even have a word for it yet.

Samurai Pizza Cats and Sailor Moon in that order on one of the local stations. It eventually became one of the flagship UPN stations.

@Albert Johfur before DB Akira Toriyama was famous due to his silly comedies Dr. Slump was a big hit (and the characters make some crossovers with DB). It is interesting that the fights part was the thing that got big on DB and became the main part of DBZ

For me it was Tenchi Muyo. I'd watched Ronin Warriors (dubbed, on TV along with American cartoons) years earlier but Tenchi Muyo was the first time I understood there was a difference. Within two years I was writing fanfiction (or attempting to...).

@Samuel Measa
Lol, reminds me of how my younger sister turned my old bedroom into her personal living room after I moved out.
She was always the one more into Japanese and retro stuff.
I was the fantasy/scifi nerd gushing over Tolkien and Star Wars.

I did read DB as a kid. The quality really went downhill after it entered the "Z" stage. DB is about as basic as you can get. I just don't get weebs.
Any interest or enjoyment I've gained from Japanese media throughout my life have been fleeting, sporadic and picky. Each to their own I guess.

I started off with Akira, Vampire Hunter D, and Ranma (at age 8). Sailor Moon & DBZ came later. I feel there's something backwards with that.

Ronin Warriors is my gateway. I remember almost nothing about it, except that one of the villains was so fucking cool. His most powerful attack was shouted in the most bad ass way as he hit the earth hard enough to make it fracture and explode an area the size of a baseball field. QUAKE WITH FEAR!

Last time on DBZ: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! BOOM!
This time on DBZ: ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRR!!!!!! BOOOOOM!
Next time on DBZ: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!! BLAMITTY KABOOOM!

My GF could give Jane tips. She's looking to turn her daughters room to a Sailor Moon/Disney Princess shrine after she leaves for collage.

This is Jane we're talking about though. I'd like to see her in a Jojo costume, or something truly meme-lord. Or every anime reference she gets is because of a popular meme.

The sword... Has a wrapped handle like a katana, but not the kind of crossguard a katana would have. Bleach is full of strange swords so... sure? If you want a bleach kind of feel you need shikigami style robes, or a Hollow mask. Actually just a Hollow style hole in your body would be fine.

Samurai Pizza Cats was the first anime I ever watched. That I can remember, anyway.

Bleach?

Speed Racer from the early eighties was my gateway anime.

Eh, you don't have to be a weeb to know Pocky & Rocky. The game is well-known among Super Nintendo gamers. It's insanely fun with 2-players after all.

@Borna Pekarić Maybe Dragon Quest ?

I recognize the references to Sailor Moon and Naruto, but what's that sword about?
