Considering Direct Hit, SR, huntspam, and a few other factors, this change is rather nice. Think of it this way: Flamethrower is harder to just kill with, but a puff and whack with the Axtinguisher is just that much easier now. If you're in range to spray, you're in range for a puff and sting.

Where is pyro jr? :0 probably fightig on badwater with the rest of the baby team...

@The Knife: Yeah, but thing is, people don't care about competitive for the most part. People who pick Pyro want a close-range ambush class that lets them make enemies BURN. Improved airblast IS good, really good but it misses the point - Pyro should burn people, not juggle them with air.

Fact is the pyro is better for comp now considering the airblast, especially the minicrits makes it extremely deadly if used correctly. The nerf on the fire makes W+M1 pyros less effective, and allows them to set, puff and shotgun, or puff and sting. Its not so much a nerf as is a gameplay change.

The BB didnt actually get a buff, it got a nerf too.
It now does 96% damage when compared to pre-update.

To anyone saying this isnt a nerf:

Go to the Pyro forums in the SPUF.
There are tons of arguments to why THIS IS A F**** NERF.

Really, I dont want a PRIMARY weapon that does LESS DPS THAN A SHOTTY WITH NOWHERE THE SAME RANGE.

Well they did a slight buff to the Backburner, right? Perhaps this update was to widen the difference between the two weapons so that ambushers could kill enemies quickly with the BB while the ABers could use the AB more effectively.

Granted, would explain why the Pyro always wears the mask, if their 'proper' attack is just 'passing gas' and the secondary one is lighting it...

I'm amused that anyone can make the comment 'This is a big bonus for people who play the class properly using airblast.' without having head-explody--um, playing a *pyro* 'properly' means using airblast instead of a *flame* weapon? Logic fail here, I think..

Even I'm not a pyro player, and I was pretty surprised at the nerf changes. Sure, the airblast is a bit better, but I'm really a bit surprised if anyone thinks it's a big game-changer.

From now on, when I mow down my requisite 20 pyros, I will afterwards remove my hat and apologize to them.

The recent patches were a massive buff to the pyro.
Fast, cheap, spammable airblasts.
Reflect mini-crits.
Synergies with the Huntsman.
Assist points on airblasts.
And damage fix on backburner/flare gun.

The new Flamethrower is a hundred time better than it was.

a 70% DPS reduction in exchange for slightly improved airblast? * probably * not a buff

and also the backburner was terrible it was the least used item in the * entire game * prior to this patch

If you think the pyro changes were a nerf, then I've got bad news: you suck at pyro.

While the buff/nerf may not seem like an important one, it seriously nerfs the sniper who gets knocked up by other classes, or one who likes to throw an arrow while falling.

So in the end, they made the skillsman worse and made the lucksman better.

This buff changed it so that the arrow cannot be fired midair for ANY reason. If you have it charged and fall off a ledge? You ain't firing. >:|

The update really wasn't much of a nerf. Pyro was already a bit OP to begin with, so it doesn't really matter. It really only sucks if you're a w+m1 noob who doesn't use the airblast. Stop QQing and learn to airblast or use the other very useful weapons in the pyro's arsenal.

I was reading a manga last night, so I totally read this right-to-left.

They made a huge deal of their 119th update, and it is kinda... underwhelming.

I wish they would have nerfed the Huntsman instead. Too many people using it. It's way OP and it's not even a sniper!

@Airblast The huntsman can now be lit on fire, even if the bow isn't strung. Also, if you put it away, it will stay lit. You don't have to glitch it anymore.

The style of the comic seems to be improved a lot, I kinda like it. Also for that in the first time I never heard the Pyro...speak and I agree with XeonV that Nerf is a title for the story.

He's a pyro, not a hair dryer. Burning things is what he's supposed to do.

In fairness the changes to airblast are great.

The only major issue I see is that airblast has now gone from being a useful extra to practically being a key weapon of the class since the flamethrower itself is gradually being made weaker. Shouldn't a pyro...you know...burn things?

This isn't a nerf. So they dropped the damage on the flamethrower. It still kills people fast at close range if you can keep them in your flame. This is a big bonus for people who play the class properly using airblast. The rate of fire and ammo usage buff is good, but minicrits on reflects? Yes plz

Interesting to see that after another small patch, the Backburner now has more damage than the standard flamethrower, so it's a more viable alternative.

As a Heavy specialist, what I want to know is was the Heavy upgrade really necessary? ...Not that I'm complaining or anything... :P

I'm very selfrespecting and pyro WAS overpowered.

The Pyro nerf really sucks...no self-respecting player could ever say that the Pyro is OP, and yet they made his flamethrower nearly useless (-20% damage and -40% afterburn) just to make the airblast a bit better...

They can pull an arrow back in mid air, but still must be grounded to actually shoot, this lets them jump from high places and shoot an arrow immediately upon landing for a surprise attack. Pyro can also light an arrow anytime.
