Is it boycotting if you never bought these things at all? Ok, I actually got the Soldier's doctor something bundle, and Medic's Sound of Science taunt when they came out at the time, but they were actually cheap and cool.
I haven't played LoL in a while, but I don't remember any gameplay content being locked behind a paywall. If that's really how things are now, I'm even more secure in my decision to switch to Legends of Runeterra.
"Like LOL"? whatcha mean? you don't need to pay for anything in that game, and theres like 10 characters free each week that rotate out, so you can save and grab the ones who you like
Buying $20-$60 bucks worth of cosmetics for a F2P game is a good way to thank a company for supporting the game. That is about as much as I'd expect to pay for a game anyways. $150 for a single cosmetic? LOL, no. If I won't pay that much for the whole game, I certainly won't pay that for micro.
The problem with the idea of boycotts is, the way people go about them online, it just doesn't work. A proper boycott requires doing the boring footwork of organizing people to do precisely that and using whatever means necessary to enforce it. This is something most people lack motivation in doing.
To be fair, the urge to own every cosmetic for a specific class / character / game as a whole is something that a hardcore fan is drawn to, especially when the game has a social element. Losing one's computer and being forced to one that's too weak to run the game is a blessing in disguise. 'x3
