Let's ignore lots of crowdfunding projects fail and making a game from scratch adds the complexity of making a game with the complexity of creating and managing a new company.
Let's also ignore some old geniuses may have lost their edge and the game you loved to play as a kid may be outdated for today's standards and you are looking to the past with rose-tinted glasses.
Let's ignore all that and just focus on the fact a crowdfunded game may take 5 years to complete. Even if the stars align, you will not see this new game for years, but you are still paying for it today.
I mean, I can wait for it and I may even pay for it, but it's hard to be hyped for something so far in the future. For me at least is more of an "I hope this goes well" and instantly shove it to the back of my memory.
