If you watched Super Mario Brother's expecting some deep plot, you probably shouldn't be allowed anything with sharp edges or the phrase "child resistant" printed on it.
There is sadly a little bit of truth to this. Light bulbs from over a hundred years ago actually were designed to last longer than they do today, but longer lasting light bulbs don't make as much money so now they're actually intentionally designed to burn out more quickly than they used to.
