Been watching a bunch of Anime based off Masamune Shirow's work. The Saddle, Seat and Lying are all there.
But lets face it. Any one who's read more then one of his books was attracted by that sweet cover art of his mixing Mech's and hot chicks. Dose that make him the Anime version of Micheal Bay?

The Guren from Code Geass has a motorcycle-style pilot's seat, which I think was a nice balance between looking comfortable to sit on and making it easy to see the pilot's butt.

Re: last panel, what about mech turtles? Are mech turtles not valid mechs? :o

You didn't need to call out D.Va like that. Tough I heard that pose is supposed to look like a racing bike, so her mecha is designed for speed and quick maneuvers.

@Chris Sizemore Now I want to see a tank where pilots stay like 3 to make it low to the ground

Modern tank design: Lets make it low to the ground to avoid giving enemies a big target.

Mech design: Lets add complicated actuators for limbs and expose every vital component! At least most mech designs don't use windowed cockpits.

I hate number 3 so godamn much.

nr 3 in D.va's case is because her mecha is not big enough for a comfortable seat

Darling in the Franxx has the kinky 1 + 3 with two pilots

@Blake Pitcher: Just like how superheroes have so-called "required secondary superpowers" to make their main powers make sense, mechas often have "required secondary tech" to make them viable, such as anti-grav thrusters, or in this case, inertia-dampeners to eliminate G-forces.

Think the old "Vandread" anime had all three, though that was more of a romcom than a mecha anime at the end of the day

Brace, brace yourself like your life depends on it because you're going to experience the G-forces of a fighter pilot and the concussive impacts of a tank crew. Your heavily padded cockpit will likely beat you to death before the machine takes enough damage to stop functioning.

I think I've fielded all three styles at the same time in Super Robot Wars 30 -- one of "Team Rabbits" is manned in style 3, most of the rest are styles 1 and 2. (Shoutouts to Magic Knight Rayearth, where it's style 2 with no pretense of a cockpit, just magic aura field around the pilot)

Either that, or Darling in the Franxx, where the mechs were co-piloted by a male/female pair. Doggy-style.

Aikodude, you're probably thinking of Code Geass. Specifically the character Kallen's mechs, because for soooome totally unknown reason that suuuurely has nothing to do with her being the main fanservice character, she was the only one who piloted like that.

That last panel looks like a good place for the old "spy here" tag joke.

im trying to remember where it was but there somewhere where they used the lying position but the whole body was supported like they were riding on a motorcycle and the mechs were more squat like.

Not Sexy enough...
You mean the ones where the Mech comes with as skirt that turns out to be the cowling for its rocket booster? OR the one where the Mechs Rocket launchers are those pointy things resembling boobs?
