More context on E.T.: The game was successful and sold well. The problem was Atari; in their hubris they made too many cartridges, and that cost an arm and a leg. This, combined with the licensing fees, bankrupted the company, and it started a chain reaction that crashed the western gaming industry.

It was a guilty participant of the early 1980's video game crash, to the point copies of it were part of the landfill in New Mexico where Atari infamously dumped and buried a lot of unsold games and consoles.
@Scarifar The green guy is from the recently deceased game Concord. You know, 8 years and USD 100M+ to make, only sold 25000 units and lasted 2 weeks before Sony pulled the plug.
The cloaked guy is ET from the old 1982 Atari game. Considered one of the worst games of all time.
