@T.chicken This is honestly first time I'm hearing people complain about the mushroom thing. Isn't also player character customization, so while Jo complains about looking bad, you can make yourself look hot like nier 2b if you really want to.

The look of a game is often good enough to sell it. Obviously the opposite is true as well. Even if your game is fun, if I hate looking at it I won't play it. There are reasons games are loaded with attractive people and cute animals.

From a quick search on Google I can see it mostly looks like the kind of mushrooms one would cook. There are plenty of interesting mushrooms that wouldn't look ugly, some might look like horns, antlers, antennae, etc. It is another case of devs not doing their homework.

Well, consider that game plot hinges you on being what is essentially Mushroom/Tree Tieflings (at least entire schtick of Godlike in Pillars of Eternity) due to some plant hive mind in main plot, I think this might be main point.
Shame it didn’t have customization like PoE, not even bird ones.

I turned off the features and everyone reacted like I had fungus face anyway. So that was even more jarring.

Angie's complaint in the last panel is almost the exact criticism I have of Pathfinder: Kingmaker. "If the main gimmick of the game is something most people want to turn off, maybe you have delivered a bad game."
