You should try the Wild Mana modmod (which is basically a drop-in replacement for FFH2). It vastly improves the AI and fixes a lot of the overpowered stuff.

Also CiV is far from balanced at the moment I'm afraid. Some civs like China are completely OP compared to others.

No wonder the spellcard rules in touhou exist. they are there so both the Miko and the sleepy old gap youkai don't fuck you up.

Sorta right, but there isn't a touhou yet that balances out Yukari's Border Hax, especially when word of god states that everything is made of borders between one thing and another. (most obvious ones: Border between Life and Death, Motion and Stillness, Truth and Lies, Power and Weakness.)

Achievements. Also, that gun reminds me most of the Enforcer from Unreal Tournament, but is generally inspired by the prevalence of really big automatic pistols. Bolt Pistols, the Carnifex Hand Cannon, etc. The family man bit is probably God of War. And yes, the whole Beret-wearing sidekick thing.
