Oh well, I had waited for this game, but if there's no modding, then I doubt it will have a replay value high enough for me to buy it...
I guess it's time for indie games, yet again.

There's games I really loved, like Fallout 1 and 2, Portal, and Warcraft 1 and 2, and yet I didn't get the sequels that looked good(fallout 3, warcraft 3 and wow, and portal 2, for some examples), so, I'm not getting a sequel that DOESN'T look good. Don't underestimate my cheapness
1. No problem.
2. Don't bother.
3. Those who wished to buy items for $$$ still bought them in D2, so no problem here as long as those items will not be "exclusive"

@Skar: Steam does NOT require a permanent internet connection like assassins creed 2. You can use most of its games in offline mode provided the games are patched on the latest version.

Well I just read the Auction House FAQ and overall it doesn't seem to bad. They created it as a more secure way for players to buy and sell with each other.
Plus, I lost track of how many unique or set pieces I got that were useless for my character in D2. Now if I can make a few buck in D3....

Pretty sure the whole reasoning behind real money transactions is so that blizzard can get a cut of a market that has already existed for a very long time in Diablo 2. For that, I honestly could not care less, good on 'em.

Not surprised about the permanent connection part (especially since hacking was rampant in Diablo 2 afaik). As for buying items for real money, I actually consider that a smart move. Cuts out the black market of companies selling ingame money for real cash like in WoW and other MMOs.

If you didn't buy things from (shady) sites before, this doesn't affect you. Yes, probably a significantly larger amount of the population will be buying gear, but all that means is you'll meet maybe twice as many ubergeareds in your time playing.
If you did buy gear, this is just straight plus.
Shidoshi

If the cash market is only intern (as in no products sold by blizzard) and it just sells what players could get by training I don't see it as TOO bad. It's just that you know can make "real money" by hunting the good stuff in the game and in-turn use that money for the same or a different game.

"modding" was pretty much just used for hacking multiplayer and I never used single player mods anyway, don't care. As much as I played SP-only on D2 and never played D1 online, I don't care about always on internet...I always have internet. As for the AH, you can just use the gold one.

Diablo 2 modding. Something that only really mattered MANY years later. Also, something you could only do with single player. Blizzard saying "NO MODS ALLOWED" is no different from saying "We won't support it", because without official support it would be impossible (at least in the next few years).
Goldteddy
However the Real cash you might earn you'll never see it anyway because it will be put into something that resembles the Steam vallet, so my guess is you can use it in the Blizz Store or to pay your Wow Sub.
Foolish to Boycut the Game because of something you can ignore fully anyway.

So what ive understood about the AH is, There is a ''Gold'' AH and there's a ''Real cash'' AH.
Both are Run by Players since Blizzard won't be selling anything tho they will be takin 2 to 3 Fee's or something of the Gold/Cash Amount you Earn.
So you can Earn Real cash by selling D3 Items...

Also, to the people saying that they are keeping single player separate from multiplayer is to stop hacking, D2 single player data was saved locally, and multiplayer data was saved on a server. You could not hack your characters by modifying a client-side file.
N/A
D2 had no mod tools, but mods in D3 are "expressly prohibited" under the ToS. Which means no mods at all.
Big difference.
I guess they don't want people playing single player and missing out on the AH that is probably going to make them more money than WoW.

As for the real money trading, they also said that the hardcore, permadeath mode won't allow you to buy items with real money, so it's not like someone can just throw money at the game's hardest problem. If someone on an easier mode wants to buy something, be my guest.
Dusk
I think Blizzard is trying to put a focus on the multiplayer trading, hence the reason they require an internet connection and prevent modding: It's to ensure nobody cheats to put a ton of valuable items on their character for trading.
Ultranigger
I hate to break it to you, mods were usually quite supported and have been what's kept D2 alive even up to today. D3 won't have that kind of support, and if it does, blizz will make an extremely limiting API that charges you for every mod you make for it and every mod somebody downloads for it.
