Well Jo, there is an xcom game coming out called XCOM: Enemy Unknown and while it's not exactly a sequel to the old ones, it still stays mostly true to the strategy based series unlike the new coverbased shooter one coming out. Who knows, the new mechanics could be good.

There's a chance SFvsTK flops hard.
Casuals- they have SFIV and Marvel, and SC5. Will they want a new fighting game so soon?
Hardcores- the sheer amount of hate on FG forums is staggering for this game, both design and gameplay-wise.

@Halv2 It's not because of legal reasons. Capcom owns all the rights to Megaman. Inufuane only worked on the Megaman games, he never created the actual character but he did help finish it.

Huh. This is...well it's certainly not on par with The hardcore fuckover of its fans that Square-Enix did with FF6 and 9 in Dissidia Duodecim.
But it's definitely Capcom flipping off megaman fans as hard as it possibly can. Wow. That's a LOT of hate.

Halv2

honestly, I think the reason the old mega man is being pulled out instead of the real one is due to legal reasons. I think Inafune holds the rights to use the traditional Mega Man look since he drew it, but Capcom hold the rights to Space Man over there, so hence why they use him.

Can't say as I agree with your premise, JO. That kind of logic would have led to never making SFIV, and that's just not on.

Capcom's a bunch of geniuses. It's like when Nintendo came up with the name "Wii." People are going to talk about how terrible it is, and that's going to make enough buzz about it that when it's released, Street Fighter Vs. Tekken will sell like hot cakes.

I hate to say this Jo but... I can sense an air of hypocrisy here. When it comes to X-Com series you want the series to come back even though the developers seems to "betray" the fans.

Wow... I saw it mainly as something as an intentional, harmless joke and an attempt to be cute. But I'm actually a little surprised at the amount of hate this is getting from fans. I guess Mega Man has been getting the back of Capcom's hand lately (especially not being in Marvel vs Capcom 3).
Shadow12000

It would be fine...if they didn't do one very big thing to piss people off. They gave him the background of Megaman from Megaman Legends, which people had been wanting another sequel to and Capcom said no. I think that was like a huge slap in the face, honestly.

You do understand this isn't "new" megaman right? its the old NES cover version... from MM1's cover?
I think Capcom is really losing their touch in some sense. Instead of doing like Nintendo and Namco and not abandoning the classics, Capcom is simply letting it become a relic, like you said. There was 2 Megaman Projects before Inafune left: Megaman Universe and Megaman Legends 3. Both abandoned.

To clear up the misconceptions in the notes about the X-Com series:
Currently there are two more X-Com games being made, one a strategy based game like the old ones and one a FPS.
The UFO: Aftermath series are NOT X-Com sequels, although they share a lot of the same style as the originals.

Only thing that in any way remotely concerns me about that new X-com is how the levels are going to be generated or if they are going to be prefab.
If Prefab then it loses a lot of its gas.
If generated in game, ZOMGWTFBBQ hotness!
It does look really promising tho ^^

Yeah, this Mega Man was planned by Inafune and was started way before the cancellation of the games.

There are TWO X-com getting developed, one is a Pre-quel in the 1950s and it is a tactical FPS, think mass effect to know how it works, this is almost ready to come out. Then there a faithful x-com remake, to tie in with the shooter, being made by FIRAXIS! \o/
Oh yes, while I'm at it? The After<blank> sequels are terrible, especially when compared to the original trilogy (yes, even the horridly buggy XCOM:Terror From the Deep.)
