Then not only will they have the people who have long backed Torchlight over Diablo for various reasons, but they will also pick up anyone bored of Diablo.

I love how the pirates are like "Hey I'm gonna pirate it". Wanna know why we're being plagued by DRM? Go into your bathroom. Look in the mirror. See that person in the mirror. Yep. Your inability to boycott is further "justifying" DRM like this in the first place. Thanks, Benedict Arnolds.

No, you had more fun with Diablo 2 because it was 10 years ago lol. I'm not sure why people just disregard every action RPG since D2 and like to act like no one got it right, but in all honesty D2... kinda sucks now. It's boring, it doesn't look good, bad voice acting, and the skills were bad.

I REALLY hate online DRM, lack of LAN play AND lack of single player. While things are like that, I will never buy D3. Hell, not even for $10.

Galdon

Well, I've been playing D3 this morning, seems like D2 with less customization and better graphics. At least on the surface, the rune specializations might make it better, but they are all unlocked by level instead of specializing to reach them it appears.
The14th
Personally I plan to pick up both. I think there is plenty of room in the market for both games (they're not launching at the same time, and T2 is only $20). Especially, like others have said, I doubt Runic Games ever dared to think they could knock off D3.

I just fail to see how D3 could possibly be good.
What new does it bring to the genre?
Cus if it brings nothing, then why would I want an unfaithful sequel that shits on it's own lore and artstyle.
As I've seen it a modernized version of Diablo 2 would be better than Diablo 3.

Torchlight 2 was never meant to go into an absolute competition with Diablo 3. Torchlight 2 has been developed over a shorter amount of time with less people and thus does not need anywhere near the amount of profit Diablo 3 will require to be considered a success.

People judging D III based on the beta, which was basically a demo, and already saying that anyone who enjoys it is somehow the 'wrong' kind of gamer. I somehow imagine these to be the same people who said that the SCII campaign was too long, forcing Blizzard to say HotS would be shorter. Dicks.

At the very least, I can still play my games on Steam when I'm disconnected from the internet. Which happens to me often. And certain Blizzard games are known for having lengthy maintenance times, so it is a big deal for me. Though to be fair, I'm not sure if you get kicked out if servers go down.

Diablo 2 is a classic. Diablo 3 is going to be living in it's shadow and trying desperately to recreate the magic elements that made it so addictive and enjoyable. Games that "try to be like something" have a habit of missing the mark, sometimes by a wiiiide margin. Keep those fingers crossed.
